Rux crux..
I'm not sure I'm the typical GW demographic (middle-aged early 80s arcade dweller - Defender, Robotron etc) however I literally and willingly put hundreds of pounds into those machines over time...fast forward through the Sabre Wulf, Elite years with big gaps until my son put GW under my nose - bang, I found the motherlode...this series has absolutely beguiled me 2-3 hours per day for the last three years or so...it somehow manages to cover every aspect of gaming that I love and has also been my first experience of online gaming against fellow members of the human race, with some mixed results - hehehehehe (cavernous reverb)...anyway, outside in the analogue world I also play the ancient game of bar billiards - my point being one of enjoyment/expenditure in that world against the digital realm...typically I'll spend around £30 per week playing in the pub twice to include beers/table tax... with GW/BfN I really only spend money on Xbox Live Gold/initial purchase of the game//replacement controller buttons & the odd packet of rainbow stars (yesterday for the Overlord)...for obvious reasons I really like the currencies in GW/GW2 because I never feel pressured to own an item immediately, knowing that it's laying in wait for me in some random packet down the line...correct me if I'm wrong but the way BfN is currently set up means there's no way, even with the recent 500 star gift and other challenge stars, of making that 1000 for the Overlord in the allotted timeframe...this is problematic as you have to buy extra stars or lose out...now, I wouldn't mind so much if the Overlord was eventually going to be available in the Reward O'Tron down the line - that way if I wanted to own it right away it'd be entirely my choice...many people would still buy it right away but for those with a hefty cost of living it'd be right and proper to be able to earn it 'in-game' at a later date...in any case the £3.99 I spent is very little against beer/billiards down the pub so I went for it...I ever only REALLY want about 20% of Rux/Reward O'Tron goods in any case so I don't feel too trapped into buying...wouldn't it be great if you could swap/return unwanted items with other players or even re-roll Reward O'Tron?...I really feel for the players who like to collect everything - they must really be feeling the forthcoming Rux heat to pay for stars...Fortnite is currently rinsing players with so much substandard merch I wonder where it'll end...please don't go down that route Popcap - make everything available eventually in the Reward O'Tron and let those who can't afford to keep up keep up at some point...GW/GW2/BfN are all a sheer privilege to play and devs absorbing those harmful blue rays day in day out to keep us all highly amused deserve fair payback...all I ask is that you don't twist our collective arms for cash by putting items out of earnable (not a real word) reach...apologies if this has already been covered and thanks to all who sacrifice game time to contribute here...cheers, MM
Ah the classic arcade games! I'm almost 50 myself so we have to be close in age judged on mentioning those great games (I'd add Missile Command, Donkey Kong, GORF, and others too) as part of growing up (we got a console a bit later so my first ever console was the Colecovision).
I know I keep repeating this but a big reason I left Overwatch was the constant FOMO with limited time loot boxes where the pittance of coins you get in the boxes for all the repeats you get can't even be used for event items! I only briefly tried Fornite but I know about the flood of items they and other games have that cost real money and may be available only for a limited time. We've been discussing this in the forums elsewhere as well, the items at Rux have such short time frames and no idea when/if they will return so people may feel pressured to pick them up as soon as they up and forced to buy stars as the map and weekly events do not provide enough.
If we knew items were coming back that would really take a load off people's minds and we'd feel less pressure to buy things immediately and would a nice nod to the community and create less resentment over the real money shop.
As a side note @MordantMusic it'd be easier to read your post if it were broken up into paragraphs a bit more. It's difficult to get through as it looks like a huge block of text. It doesn't invalidate your point but it does obfuscate it a bit.
