After several frustrating matches against tiny teams comprised of various cancerous players, I tried something new last night - or, at least new since the SBM came online.
I sometimes like to play on my wife's account. It is refreshing to be a "nobody" instead of being marked out in the lobby as a max rank player. I am what I like to call a medium skill player. I typically make about 1/3 the vanquish numbers as my friends I play with. So, I'm not exactly being a pool shark when I play this account. I'm still in the middle of the lobby afterwards, sometimes with one or two of the minor boasts, like revives or assists.
I haven't played on this account for a few weeks. So around midnight, I logged on to that account and started up the portal. Lo and behold! I was put in an almost full lobby of players of various ranks from baby blue to 12 or so. There may have been one or two in the 20s or 30s. It was fantastic! Just like the old days. Several of these players were much more skilled than I, as I was hoping, some around my skill, plus a batch of noobs. And I got to play a couple rounds of turf that were actually fun. Both of these games went all the way to the end, and the teams were actually being teams, not a bunch of lone wolves racking up their streaks. Gesturing at each other after point caps, following each other to help with the teleports, healing and reviving. A breath of fresh air.
I truly hope that it is realized soon what a failure this so-called matchmaking is. It's ruining the game for a large part of the user base and it needs to go.
