My thoughts exactly. I'm an old fart but love PvZ and especially the shooters. We need a new shooter that lasts longer than BfN's support did. They need to learn lessons that the 3 existing PvZ shooters teach and make the best game ever. I just hope they are able to do that. I'm never playing OW again and I haven't played much TF2 since GW2 came out, but while I do like Paladins, the PvZ shooters are my all time favorite MP shooters. We need a new one!
Considering how fast this one shut down with no successor in sight, but also making so many big changes at the end it makes me wonder what is going on behind the scenes. GW2 had at least some support beyond the first besides just making it run as for example right now in GW2 you can get the 2016 and 2017 Halloween packs (which have different costume pieces), and the game launched in February of 2016. It did get back a lot and we got the Wall-Nut Hills added (in a limited fashion), and then the costumes for Torchwood and Hovergoat late in its life but it always felt like they were adding that stuff to the game to keep people interested and playing and excited for the next game, which many of us were.
With BfN hitting such an abrupt end, the future doesn't look great but perhaps they are shuffling teams around and a different team is planned for the next PvZ shooter? I know a large chunk of the GW2 people have been gone for awhile (at least from what I've read). Part of why I'm still playing these games, besides the fact I love them of course, is to 'show the flag' and hope enough people are playing and showing EA/PopCap that we want more! If they made the game more like GW2 at its core, it wouldn't need as much work as BfN did, which reinvented a lot of things from the ground up.
What I would love to see is a new game that takes what worked in all 3 games, fixes what didn't, has all platform crossplay (and has solid anti-cheat and bans problem players quickly), is supported for a long time, has solid promotion (something BfN didn't), a decent economy, and is supported well for a long time.
This makes me wonder: will PvZ 3 have any kind of effect on the future of this franchise? If EA looks back on how successful this franchise has been overall, PvZ 1 and 2 were very good, and same with GW 1 and 2. I would say Heroes did really quite well, but they seemed to stop supporting the game too early, that was the major flaw (honestly, I did not properly know of the game’s existence until updates had discontinued). That said, many players still seem to play Heroes absolutely GW2. PvZ: BFN (and maybe PvZ 3) did not do quite as well, but a fair amount of players still play the game regardless. Overall, I find this franchise to be successful - I cannot see why it cannot be continued (you know you want to).
@Iron_Guard8 Why are your posts always so well-written? 😃
When I heard the rumor that BfN would be released at Nintendo Switch, I dreamed that one PvZ character can appear at Smash Bros.
(Snapdragon will be good in Smash Bros. Because
1) There are already so many humanoid characters in Smash Bros., so plants are better than zombies.
2) Short-ranged characters are prefer to ranged characters. If Citron shoots his Gatling at will in Smash Bros., is he loved by players?
3) A PvZ character in Smash Bros should be able to melee-attack by some means. Because all Smash Bros. characters have many melee attacks, so Rose is difficult to appear at Smash Bros.
4) Chomper won't welcomed because he is too similar to Piranha Plant.
So Snapdragon will be a good character in Smash Bros. His abilities will be fine in Smash Bros. and he is heavy, can hover, and has a returning ability.)
I hope that dream comes true someday.
