I'm in the same boat OP is in. Garden Warfare 2 has been a truly disappointing game for something I spent $75 on. The content is limited, updates and patches are far in-between, the maps are forgettable, balance is all over, and the progression is super, super slow. And now they have the audacity to ask me to spend another $40 on a half baked Christmas update??? Yeah, I think I'll pass.
I was one of many that were suckered into the hype for GW2, and I've played it for well over 400 hours. But now that it's been out for almost a year, I can't really see this game improving. It's just not worth the time anymore.
