Splitscreen Coop Online

Can you play splitscreen (couch coop) online? I know splitscreen is a thing, but is it exclusively offline (e.g. PvE, vs bots, etc.)? Essentially, I want to play the game online (versus other player...

      @Dubmac257 Connect the other controller that the second player is going to use, and then press the X or Square button. This can be done anywhere.
