I went to Weirding Woods to try the chest you are having trouble with and used soldier and this is the result:
as you can see I just popped onto the platform easily.... it must be so frustrating for you and I'm not sure what to suggest... seems a little odd.
We have had issues with people not being able to complete quests due to certain upgrades or even costumes... not sure why this would impact your jumps but might be worth trying a vanilla soldier or other character with out upgrades and see if that helps... this game does have weird little glitches and oddities.
