Stuck aiming upwards

I just installed the game the other day and have not gotten to play yet thanks to this.
Every time I load into a lobby my character starts aiming upwards. The mouse works fine in the menus.
I've tried everything I can think of.
I unplugged my mouse, plugged it in other ports, tried running the game with nothing plugged into the USB ports, nothing would work
I disabled every mouse input in the menu and when I reset the game, the character would still start aiming up despite the fact that I manually had no way to aim. I did this with keyboard controls too, it wouldn't work either. In fact, the key bound to aiming down will simply not do anything, no matter what.
After some experimentation, I can say that it has nothing to do with my mouse or my keyboard, so it must be some sort of plugin. I already disabled most controller profiles I could think of, so I really don't know what else I can do to fix this.

Hello! just want to check in to say that while neither of these solutions worked out for me, I ended up launching the game with an Xbox controller plugged during one of my attempts, and that seemingly bypassed the problem. As long as an Xbox controller is plugged into the pc, the aiming upwards issue is completely bypassed, and I can play with my controller or mouse and keyboard just fine. Having a lot of fun with the game btw! It's great so far.

  • Okay, I've officially tried disabling every controller driver I had on my pc, still no luck. Since the problem seems to come from the controller settings, is there a way to just disable controller settings altogether?

I'm going to try installing the previous PVZ games just to see if this aiming problem is also in the previous two games. I will post more after I'm done testing both games

Okay, I've tried both Garden Warfare 1 and 2, and neither of them gave me this weird problem. I could play both games just fine and my character never started to look up without allowing me to look back down.
I also tried a similar game that came out at around the same time (Rocket Arena) and that game also gave me no similar problems. This is only happening with Battle For Neighborville.

Fiddling around in the settings one more time made me realize that I cannot change the controller bindings at all, they immediately think I'm hitting a key, despite the fact that I have no controller plugged in. I would assume something similar is happening with the aiming. Any idea on how I could disable the controller settings for the game, or at least delete the controller binds? This would solve my issue as far as I can tell.

I really just need to know where the file with the game's settings is located. I believe that would be enough if I just edit out all of the controller binds from there.

    Hey @PurpleStar476370,

I've read through all your posts, and this is a popular issue with the PC version.

Can you try completely closing out of Origin, including task manager, and clear Cache?

    https://help.ea.com/en-us/help/faq/clear-cache-to-fix-problems-with-your-games/

Open Origin, repair the game files, and try launching again.

You can also try closing any background apps that might be interfering with Origin:

    https://help.ea.com/en-us/help/origin/origin/programs-that-may-cause-conflicts-with-origin/

Also, are your drivers updated on your Mouse?

    Thanks 🙂

@PurpleStar476370 What you described is half the proposed solution outlined.  Having an xbox controller plugged in seems to stop the upwards input.  With that, try to go into the settings menu and delete the keybind for looking up/down by selecting it and holding ESC.  This way, you should be able to play without needing a controller plugged in all the time.
