Summer Nights Festival - Chomper (Character Challenge Guide)!

Greetings,

I am going to attach my personal tips in this thread, for Chomper's character challenges this week. Completing all of his challenges will give you 15 bulbs - 10 for completing all of his challenges, and an additional 5 for a character challenge completion reward, which means you gain 7 bulbs for his challenge, instead of 2. This excludes any bulbs you earn in other ways while performing his character challenges. His challenges are not very tricky and should be completable in a short amount of time - meaning if you have a bit of extra time on your hands you can smash out his challenge in a free-roam region or in Ops. These bulbs will come in useful for getting ahead on the Prize Map or if you're trying to get the Brainium Basher quickly - I managed to get the legendary upgrade just before by completing Chomper's challenges.

His challenges are as follows:

  • Earn 5,000 XP as Chomper.
  • Land 200 Hits with Chomp.
  • Snare 30 Enemies with Spikeweed.
  • Devour 30 Enemy Heroes with Burrow and Survive.
  • Immobilise 30 Enemies with Grody Goop.

As always, you may come read here if you want help with his challenges (or are bored or something). If you want to skip to a specific challenge, I will be covering each challenge in detail so skip to that challenge. I will put them in the same order as I ordered his challenges as above.

For now, bye!

Regards

  • Just go into free-roam regions since they're your one-stop for all challenges. For the "Snare 30 Enemies with Spikeweed", you go around trying to trap minions (preferably without range). That should activate a skirmish which helps you complete all the other challenges.

  • My personal tips for Chomper's character challenges this month are as follows. Note that for upgrades, and their names, upgrade point costs and stats, I used the following site on the PvZ Wiki to obtain them: https://plantsvszombies.fandom.com/wiki/Chomper_(PvZ:_BfN). Chomper's challenges are quite simply and can be done with relative ease in a short amount of time if doing in PvE. Anyway, his tips are as follows:

    Earn 5,000 XP as Chomper.

    • Use the "Levelling Up" upgrade to get 10% more XP from most actions, giving you this challenge faster.
    • In free-roam regions, 2-3 successful and full games of Ops and/or skirmishes will give you this challenge.
    • As you are an Attack character, you want to get as many vanquishes as you can. If you do, you should get XP quite fast, especially in PvP.
    • Any other actions you can do to get XP faster, such as going out of your way for revives, assists and so on, is worthwhile as you will get this challenge faster.
    • You shouldn't have to worry about completing this challenge, you will most likely get it before completing the rest of your challenges. This happened to me.

    Land 200 Hits with Chomp.

This challenge requires you to land a total of at least 200 hits with your Primary Weapon, Chomp. Your Slobber Shot secondary weapon does not work for this challenge. However, Chomper can actually bite multiple enemies with Chomp at once if they are closely clustered together, so keep that in mind. You can use your Burrow to approach enemies or to get away from them. Also keep in mind that enemies with higher health are better for completing this challenge, such as bosses, because you can land more Chomp hits on them!

    Tips

    • Skirmishes, Ops and Free-roam Fights: Enemies with high health are great to target as you can Chomp them more. Also, enemies that closely cluster are great because you can actually damage multiple enemies with Chomp.
    • Battle Chests and Bounty Hunts: Enemies with higher health are your best bet to concentrate on!
    • Bosses and Boss Fights: Chomp your way through the boss until you vanquish them. Retreat and heal if required.
    • Giddy Park (Private with Al): Chomp the TV Heads.
    • PvP Modes: Always try and concentrate on enemies with more health, and if they closely cluster, do your work and chomp away! You can use Burrow to get away or towards enemies as well.

    Useful Upgrades

    • Face Bite (1 upgrade point): Your Chomps can deal critical damage. If you deal a critical hit, you can deal extra damage. This is good if you need to vanquish the enemy quickly.
    • Dirt Bath (4 upgrade points): While you are in Grody Goop, you move faster and chomp faster. Good for getting faster chomps, while locking your prey in place!
    • Fearless (2 upgrade points): You gain health rapidly when 2 or more enemies are near, great if you are getting up close and personal, and chomping away.
    • Chomp Thing (3 upgrade points): Your delay to regenerate is heavily reduced - excellent when retreating after battle.

Snare 30 Enemies with Spikeweed. #

For this challenge, you need to trap 30 or more zombie or gnome foes using your Spikeweeds. These take a while to arm and need to be thrown first before they are deployed, so try to think ahead. Another thing to consider is that the more enemies that are present, the more likely enemies are to step into your Spikeweeds. But do consider that it can be destroyed by enemy fire. Something you can do in PvE is place a Spikeweed in front of you, then get the Al to come towards you and they should get trapped in your Spikeweed. This challenge could take you the longest to complete, so always keep this challenge in mind and work on it when you can so that you can save time.

    Tips

    • Ops, Skirmishes and Free-roam Fights: Try and place Spikeweeds into groups of enemies, or try to place them in front of your enemies and try to get them to walk into it. In Ops, place them in front of your garden. If doing in Ops, try to do it before enemies start coming so your Spikeweeds have more time to recharge.
    • Battle Chests and Bounty Hunts: Try and trick enemies into walking into it. Try and do it more to Super Brainz as they are more suited to close range combat. Remember, there is a delay before the Spikeweed can go off.
    • Giddy Park (Private with Al): Get TV Head Zombies to walk into it. Place it in front of them and get them to walk into it.
    • PvP Modes: Use it in objectives or throw it into groups of enemies. Try to place it around corners and in unsuspecting areas so zombies do not notice. Another option is to try and place them behind Zombies so they do not suspect.

    Useful Upgrades

    • Symbiosis (3 upgrade points): When you vanquish an enemy with your Burrow and eat them, you will automatically create a Spikeweed at your location. Great for more Spikeweeds, and hopefully more ensnares as well!
    • Vampire Spikeweed (2 upgrade points): You heal when you trap an enemy with Spikeweed which is great for keeping your health nice and topped up!

Devour 30 Enemy Heroes and Survive. #

Great news everyone! This challenge should not be very painful to complete. It does not mean you have to eat 30 or more Enemy Heroes in a row without being vanquished. It means that you need to eat Zombie Heroes 30 Times, but not get vanquished while you are digesting them. If you get XP for Swallow and Live, you will get a point to this challenge. So if you're unsure, check for that to see if you got awarded a point towards this challenge. You can use your Spikeweeds and Grody Goop to lock Zombies in place for an easier Burrow vanquish.

    Tips

    • Ops, Skirmishes and Free-roam Fights: Use your other abilities and attacks against other Zombies, but use your Burrow against Heroes. If there are several in an area, try to eat one at a time, and wait for your Burrow to recharge each time.
    • Battle Chests and Bounty Hunts: All Zombies in Battle Chests are Heroes, so go for gold! Try to eat enemies closer to you so you do not need to chase after them. You can eat any Heroes that appear in Bounties if they are not Elite.
    • PvP Modes: Hide behind a corner and pop out when a Zombie Hero gets near. Something else to consider is, if there is only one Zombie Hero (or you could risk it if there is more), eat them and you should not get vanquished. Use your Spikeweeds and Grody Goop to make it easier to trap Zombies so you can eat them.

    Useful Upgrades

    • Mastication (4 upgrade points): You digest Zombies that you eat faster, which is excellent for greatly increasing your chances of surviving after eating an enemy hero.
    • Well Fed (3 upgrade points): When you are moving slow during your Burrow, your burrow meter lasts for longer which is great if you want to wait enemies out, or if you need to be invincible for longer.
    • Hotrod (3 upgrade points): After you vanquish an enemy with Burrow, you get faster movement speed for a short time, great if you are trying to escape enemies.

Immobilise 30 Enemies with Grody Goop. #

For this challenge, use your Grody Goop to trap and negate the abilities of 30 Zombies. If you do so, you will get this challenge. This does not work if the damage is spreading to enemies, rather you need to actually stun lock them, so the best option is to throw the Grody Goop on the enemies. Try to do it on clustered enemies. Then, after that, focus on your other challenges and wait for your Grody Goop to recharge. Then rinse and repeat.

    Tips

    • Ops, Skirmishes and Free-roam Fights: Try to throw it into clusters of enemies to immobilise them. Or use it against big enemies because they generally move slower as well, they are less likely to escape from it. Also, in Ops, use it if your enemies are clustering around the garden. It will work a treat!
    • Battle Chests and Bounty Hunts: Throw it on an enemy, or multiple if they cluster. Do it from close range if you have trouble connecting the Grody Goop with your enemies.
    • Bosses and Boss Fights: Throw it at the boss, they should be easy to hit.
    • Giddy Park (Private with Al): Use it against TV Heads, if you can have them cluster and hit multiple, you'll be beaming!
    • PvP Modes: In objectives or when your enemies cluster, use your Grody Goop! Try to surprise enemies from behind or use it in closed corridors and tight spaces so the Zombies find it harder to escape. If you block off other areas with it as well, they may be forced to go through it.

    Useful Upgrades

    • Upset Stomach (2 upgrade points): Your Grody Goop lasts longer, and it gives you more time to immobilise enemies.
    • Dirt Bath (4 upgrade points): You move and chomp faster in your Grody Goop, which is good at finishing enemies after you immobolise them!

#Upgrades that reduce refresh times of abilities, such as Critical Blow, Combo and Refreshing Revive, are excellent for these challenges as you can use these abilities more often under certain circumstances, meaning you can achieve your challenges faster.

Chomper's challenges, especially in PvE, should not take long to complete and should be in no way difficult either. You may even be able to do it in this week's event, Surbination Isolation, because enemies sometimes cluster and it is an objective based game mode. You should always keep your Spikeweed challenge in mind as this one could take some time and strategy to complete. Try and use your Burrow for Heroes, Chomps for Bosses and Enemies and your other challenges for Browncoats and other Zombies. If you can manage this stuff, you shouldn't have a problem with these challenges and should get the bulbs in no time!

At the time of this writing, there is a bug that seems to prevent players from earning normal XP, and they are getting less than they should. However, I was doing Chomper's character challenges and I'm happy to say it's most likely a visual glitch - as I still got the XP challenge in about the same time that I would get a different XP challenge.

Bye now! Hope this guide was helpful!
