I have noticed that different maps have different amounts of layered terrain, with some maps having lots of high vantage points and other maps having close to none. For instance, some maps will have lots of rooftops and high areas that can be accessed by many characters, while other maps will be generally flat with limited high vantage areas. A map may even have multiple high vantage points in particular areas while having almost none in the remainder of the map. In the Garden Warfare series, many of the high vantage points can only be accessed by certain characters, whereas in BFN most characters can access even the higher vantage points as there will generally be objects that most characters can jump from to access it. It would make more sense to me if this feature worked like the Garden Warfare series, where only certain characters that can gain large bursts of height at once to get to higher vantage points would make more sense to me, as it defeats the purpose to a degree if almost all of the characters could climb up to higher vantage points if they wanted. Characters that can gain big bursts of height, even if it is an ability with a cooldown, can have a tactical advantage over characters that cannot as they can get up to high ground and attack more accurately at their enemies below.
This is a reason why maps are unique in their own way, and not just because each map is different to one another, but because of the strategy that can be executed regarding the terrain and the varying landscape in each map. Noting a similar concept here, but even stairs and angled terrain can be used to your advantage as good positioning can allow you to deal damage to your enemies, while preventing your enemies from dealing damage to you because of solid terrain blocking their way. It is not only higher vantage points that can provide more strategy on different maps, but using angles in the terrain and cover can allow you to shoot at your enemies and prevent them from dealing damage to you. If there are underground tunnels or some low vantage points, this could allow you to attack your enemies by surprise from below, although this is not as common as high vantage points.
The high ground isn't amazing and many buildings have stairs near the back or conveniently placed vans to punish unaware players trying to abuse the advantage but many of them also have walls or slopes to protect you from long range harrasment yet the stairways I mentioned earlier make it great for flanking and as the name would imply most matches have a ton of chompers they are able to move very efficiently on this map.
Even in ops the pots can be placed on top of buildings which allows them to bottleneck the streets and browncoats are forced to deviate from the main path to eliminate them as they are generaly protected from ranged retaliation but much the weakness is that rooftop plants are alone and generally unprotected if they get swarmed.

@stukapookaIs that map in GW? I haven't actually seen this map but I will check it out in a video or something. Sounds like an excellent example of the verticality that is present in the shooters and how it can be used effectively on this map.
- stukapooka4 years agoLegend@TheSprinter85 Yeah it was the map that launched with gnome bomb in gw1. A small town with multiple small buisnesses, a gas station, and a statue of crazy dave riding a chomper while holding a flower. A lot of nice details like signs on restauramts saying plants eat free and a small tomb marker in the corner of the map where the zombies spawn in.
The buisnesses aren't that high while gas station and statue are but provide a lot of cover while having backdoors for classes like chomper to use. It's not gw1's best map but it's still up there. - Iron_Guard84 years agoLegend
Chomp Town is a great map from the original GW. It has a lot of routes to get around, a decent amount of accessible high ground, and excellent cover. It's a map that really needs to come back.
- stukapooka4 years agoLegend@Iron_Guard8 The fact that more gw1 maps didn't get directly ported to 2 hurts my soul everyday. I'd be fine with a redesign like aqua center but i would love to have it look like it did originally.
