Thanks for ruining Chomper!

He's now pretty much ineffective in his chomping ability. You can't swallow a zombie by chomping them above ground, and even the burrow chomp is rendered all but useless, as nearly every player hops across the map constantly. This is not done to avoid being chomped but because the maps are so freaking huge, players have discovered hopping gets you to locations quicker. As a result, even if the other player doesn't know you're there, unless they're stationary, you have little chance of making the kill.

Then aiming the spikeweed is so imprecise compared to GW2. And I don't understand why? What purpose does it serve in the game for the weed to roll out and not land and stay where you were aiming it? What? For the sake of a stupid bit of animation you've hampered it's usefulness? In GW2 you could be right next to a zombie, spit out a weed, snare them, then gobble away. Now when you try that, you may not snare them at all, because the weed rolls. 😞

It seems like Chomper is supposed to be used more as a long range attacker now, which is not the nature of Chomper!

He is one of my all-time fav characters, but I really can't stand how he plays in this game. And I don't know if it's supposed to happen, but while playing him, if I get hit, my screen starts to go all dark. Even when I had pretty much full health, making it near impossible to see around me.

They definitely wanted to make Chomper play differently. I've enjoyed him in BfN, even got vanquish and objective master defending at peachy district, but I also enjoyed him before, but not all that much. He was my least favorite character in GW1 and GW2 but unlike other hero/class shooters, there are no characters in these PvZ shooters I outright refuse to play as I don't dislike any of them, just like some more than others.

His playstyle was pretty much the same in GW1 and 2, so having these changes in this new game is going to be jarring. I prefer his new role of being more team friendly but obviously not everyone will be. Hopefully the fact that control, aiming, and other performance issues that are still on the Trello board will improve this for people further.

@Iron_Guard8 Yes I hope there is some improvements to him in regards to performance issues, his play style has changed dramatically, and there’s different ways to play him now, taking even more skill if one ever plans to play him like an assassin (which is possible just more difficult than before).

Chomper skills aside, I love his new look and more family dog-like personality. It makes him cuter and gives him more personality to explain his chomping and eating skills. I’m glad chomper was made and part of GW1 and he’s been a joy to play him, even now with his different play style, his personality always shines bright.
  • @arit0824 My wife (she loves watching, not playing) and I fell in love with Chomper in GW2 (didn’t use him in GW1) when we’d play private Ops and he was a teammate.  He acted exactly like a disobedient puppy who wouldn’t stay near the garden ever.

    Good stuff.

I didn't play chomper much at all in GW2 and probably won't in BFN either...
but I kinda like the new chomper and he is very cute now....

    hahaha @spIash_damage a disobedient puppy 😃

PS Wish they would do something about these emotes in this forum they are a bit guff.... and don't really display emotions at all... and there is no laughing ones... why?
    Cant they be updated?

@spIash_damage Oh she definitely likes watching.  I really like how she calls me Mr. Pitcher.  And you little catcher.

But seriously, I’ve never been a chomper main not have I cared for them.  That being said with this games speed I would not be opposed to chomper having a longer burrow or being able to chomp from the rear.  He does need a little love. I wouldn’t change his goop or spike weed and leave as is.  He needs to stay stealthy and not an oncoming vanquisher.  I wouldn’t be mad if his shot was slightly toxic either.  Not 5 tics like GW2 but maybe 3 on sets of 5.
