The devs asked on stream why BFN doesn't feel like GW1+2 so I made this list
I was so happy when I heard Shaun Laker talk about the different feeling from Garden Warfare 1+2 compared to BFN. I felt „heard“ and the devs are doing a great job of listing to the community.
I was super pumped when they released the Founder’s Edition but was extremely let down by the wobbly overall feeling of the game as I am sure a lot of you did too.
I don’t know almost anything about game designing, but played A LOT of Garden Warfare 1+2 so I know a thing or two about those games and how they felt compared to BFN.
Firstly, I can’t understand how the same team could nail the controls and aiming in Garden Warfare 1+2 so perfectly and screw it up so hard for BFN. I mean, just copy and paste the combat from GW to BFN sounds stupid when I write it, but is it tough? I mean, the devs should have all the data, the code, everything. Why change this perfectly running system in the first place? But here we go, we gotta fix it as soon as possible! Some of these points are on the trello board already, but I am going to list them nonetheless.
The imo biggest issue:
- There is a significant delay in the controller inputs, especially when using the right stick. Just wiggling around in circles feels completely different from GW2 and not „in sync“ with the input
- Hitting a jumping and running opponent with a projectile based weapon is almost impossible so everybody keeps running away of course. Combine this with the not so great frame rate and you have yourself a major unfunny and unrewarding combat system
- There seems to be a decrease in aiming/looking sensitivity when mid air. jumping and looking around feels way slower than normal looking/aiming. Problem is with every character but i.e. very noticeable when using hyper with the pea shooter
- Yes it is on the trello board, but most abilities are still lagging and missing their „smoothness“ when executing. Cactus’s fly ability, the chili bean bomb takes forever to come out, corn’s husk hop has this weird bird eye perspective etc. Most of the abilities are missing their smoothness and „on point execution“
- Weapons deal not enough damage. In GW1+2 you could destroy your opponent in mere seconds when you got the jump on him or are just skilled enough and now every fight takes forever and usually ends with one party running away or just ability spamming the opponent to death. Don’t get me wrong, the last thing I want to see is a Call of Duty style „I can take 2 hits and drop dead“, but compared to GW2 you just don’t feel like a badass anymore (or rarely so) racking up kills. Every vanquish feels like a chore and hard, unrewarding work
- On top of that there is the problem with the hitboxes and general lack of smoothness when trying to track an enemy with your weapon. For example using Foot Soldier, Corn or Pea Gatling used to be ultra smooth but is now a struggle to hit anything with them (although the damage buff helped a bit of course, but didn’t resolve the bigger issue)
Please add your feedback so when we can all make BFN the great game it could be and get this sweet Garden Warfare feeling back!
