The issues with garden warfare loyalty

So, i'll get straight to the point. I played and loved GW1 and when i could finally play GW2 it was great! until i opened my mailbox.

I see mail saying i could link my GW1 account to my GW2 account and get rewards, i was a bit hyped until i tried to link. Apparently that "event" is closed. Now, this wouldn't be an issue to most people but to me it's a slap in the face. To add more, i reached max level in GW1. Finding out a character that can only be obtained by reaching max level in GW1, something i have already achieved, was just spitting in my face after finding that out. 

And yes, there was a time frame before it ended but some of us couldn't afford a PS4 or Xbox One. Now i'm financially stable and it really annoys me that there was a time limit. There is really no reason to end it. Technical issues? Maybe you should make sure your servers can sustain this before offering something like that. Why even let people receive that mail if it's no longer possible to do? I started GW2 last month by the way. 

I wouldn't be upset if i wasn't receiving the characters i already had in GW1. Literally every pack i have opened contained a character i had in GW1. No new variants for any of the new zombies, no new variants, no new anything. If linking was still available i wouldn't be having this issue.

Extremely disappointed and somewhat upset. Party upgrade is out, looks like i won't be buying it due to this.

  • Personally, the option to get the Unicorn Chomper through hitting Max Rank in the previous game should be a gimmick of this particular series, and be open the entire time.

    Moving your variants and skills however, should not. In fact, that should only be available within like the first two-six months of the release of GW 3 in order to force-migrate the player base to the new game.

    I was going to agree somewhat with the OP.  However, after searching all over for "purchase garden warfare 2," I don't find any reference in marketing materials or on online vendors' sites to importing characters for GW1 at this time.  So I can't find fault with them.

    I suspect everyone responsible for producing the game, as well as the user base, was disappointed that the time window for character import, in particular the unicorn chomper, was limited.  

    I'd like the opportunity to still knock back a couple hours here or there on GW1 to earn UC.  But it apparently required an unsustainable server load, however it was set up.  I hope that popcap/EA  has learned from this experience.

    While I am bummed that I can't migrate my characters over from GW1, it is not the end of the world. I'm mostly irritated at the mass amounts of grinding to repurchase something I already have.(Way to put cheese on the wheel EA.)

    However, I highly disagree with forced migration. For starters nobody should feel guilty that they couldn't afford a game fast enough. Consider that the main player base is kids. Often kids get gifts for birthdays and the holidays. Whose to say they get it within such a small time frame. (That also assumes they already have a usable system and don't have to wait for that too.) That is the very problem that people are upset about now. Forced migration that only lasted a year or so. We can argue about the time length but ultimately the issue is that there is a time length at all. Beyond all of that, I would be really irritated if I was forced onto GW2 because there are things GW1 does better. In fact, I was playing GW1 earlier today and from what I saw there are quite a few other people who agree with me.

    But, lets talk money as EA and PopCap are companies and GW2 wouldn't exist without EA. Remember, Popcap is making money off of optional (can't emphasize the word optional enough) micro transactions. Forced migration is likely an overall loss of money for them. Especially if people go backwards to unlock things for the new game. For example, if someone told me I could get 56 of 100+ variants at around half the cost (40k vs 75k for full character unlock packs) naturally I would get GW1. Especially if it meant an unlockable variant for GW2. Now, before anyone points out the flaw in my statement, I know that money is easier to get in GW2 and that GW1 has its own cost. (Don't know what it runs now but its probably $10-$20.) However, while players of the game know that, the general public won't. In other words, while I know its not a better deal most people won't, and even for those like me the unicorn requires I go back to play anyway. (The impatient ones will likely pay for coins to get the unicorn faster too.) Point being, GW1 in the end becomes an extension of GW2 grinding/revenue.

    What I'm saying is, as long as micro transactions and sales cover the servers, GW1 should remain active. Allowing the unicorn/variant transfer is a good way to keep players playing and paying.

    I wouldn't put the forced migration down because children without jobs can't afford to save up for a video game by putting $10 in a jar every month. Here you are now, as well as many others before and after you who will wish they had the chance to participate in such a migration. You can take advantage of the migration and reward while STILL continuing to play the previous title. You're practically paying for a migration DLC.

    I don't have the Unicorn Chomper. I transfered my characters 1-2 weeks before migrations closed.

    I can sympathize what it's like to not fill out that single collective piece in the end game.

    I can empathize what it was like to try and farm for it before Loyalties closed.

    I can fully emphasize that -IF THERE WERE A WAY TO GO BACK AND GET IT, SALES FOR THE PREVIOUS GAME WOULD ONLY DECLINE WHEN THE GAME FRANCHISE FULLY DIED-

    I read this post a few times and I can't tell if you are agreeing or disagreeing. Or for that matter if it was meant as a reply to me at all. What I will say is there is a difference between forced migration and migration. Forced suggests it is required to continue playing. Opposed to an optional migration. So, I do oppose a forced migration in any event other than complete shut down of GW1 servers. (Which as I learned today is not the case. Though I did lose my XB360 progress, I'm back at rank 1. Shrug.)

    In the event of an optional migration, the point is to allow players to migrate and redeem loyalty rewards indefinitely, even if it involves an event the way Rux or Mystery Portal is now. (A small window every month to prevent server problems but still offer players the opportunity.) The best reason I have for continual optional migration is then the developers can focus on new things rather than finding ways to earn old things again. (Seriously, in my 30 Rainbow Star chest of my first event I got two "classic" stickers. After dealing with that stupid yeti I can say I was super disappointed.) More importantly if old items are indefinitely unlocked in previous installments with the option to transfer up (Like, say, Pokemon.) there would always be a reason to go back to the older installments. (Which means more coin sales for EA.) Indefinite transferring makes GW1 and GW2 two parts of the same thing. Temporary transferring makes GW2 the replacement for GW1. (Or I guess the "definitive" version.)

    Anyway, don't take my quoting you as a challenge, simply wanted to give credit for saying the things that got me thinking about what I wrote. In any case, my primary "desire" (if you can call it that) is the ability to redeem rank 313 for the Unicorn. Missing the work done in GW1 sucks but at least it can be reobtained in GW2. As things stand, the unicorn can't be. Next to that is a definitive way to get Rux items one may be missing. (A promise of a cycle would be nice, or have Rux stock them all and have the player buy them one at a time until they have caught up. At full price of course, just without waiting for them to come back.)

    I was browsing the answer HQ and stumbled upon this. Thought people would like to see it. The loyalty program is still being advertised, which is in fact false advertisement. If you click the link it says it cannot find page, so no details are available, even details saying when or why it ended.

    I'm saddened to see "WHat's new in PvZ GW 2" being last updated in February of 2016... this game still has so much potential ;-;
