The wizard items are rux exclusive - R.I.P Reward-o-Tron (A Rant)

Is this how it’s gonna be for every future character? Locking their cosmetics by an egregious grind, or being forced to wait MONTHS for a SINGULAR COSTUME! That doesn’t even include the hats, accessories, and sets. And it’s only going to get worse as time goes on.

Within my item rotation, I see a wizard set. This wizard set had been in the game’s files ever since Wizard’s debut, maybe even a month before then. (I did not datamine for this info. I don’t even own the game on PC.) . “Oh hey, we’re not gonna be selling coins. See, we’re pro consumer!”

The worst part is that cosmetics are pretty much the main form of progression in this game. And making that poor is just sad.

Only a madman would waste months of their life playing this messy game for a measly costume. Literally every single update they have made is a double-edged sword.
“Oh hey, we increased Rainbow star gains for the players!” Increases prices for single items

”We hear that you want plant buffs, so here you are!” Buffs the plants that were already powerful, now ruining balance even further. Also nerfing Imp too hard, and nerfing the base character of Footsoldier because of Rapid Fire, forcing Soldier to always run Rapid Fire to stay relevant.

”Hey, we got a new map for you guys.” Unplayable and unbearable lag tied to it, being in rotation of the most popular mode

”We fixed Ranked mode!” Breaks ranked mode even further, by making victories not even count. Thus making a major form of earning premium currency redundant.

”We personalized Rux!” Personalized Rux means nothing if people can get items they already own in their rotation. The point of personalizing it is to AVOID already owned content.

The base game itself was already a double-edged sword. I almost regret buying it. But the only reason I stick around is because of what the game can be. If this game fails, which is seeming more likely, then the entire PvZ franchise will fail. PvZ 3 is somehow even worse than this mess. Literally, the only form of hype I have for this game is from datamines. Devs and Community Managers have been radio-silent. Are they scared of facing their consiquences?

If you want this game to succeed, you need to initiate Project Repairville. Just work on what is necessary, and stop pulling an EA.

And I swear, do not abandon this game when it finally becomes good. Do not ditch it to make a sequel when you left this one to be so bad for so long.

  • @YaBoiMattyK Honestly, they could just make a Wizard Bundle that comes with all the stuff you'd expect to find in the Reward-O-Tron. You should be able to get this bundle for Coins or Rainbow Stars.

@YaBoiMattyK  Here’s my thought process: if the developers aren’t going to fill the Reward-O-Tron for a while (or at all - but I dread just thinking about it), what if they made most of the nonlegendary items from Rux coins instead of rainbow stars. With all the new stock and all the stuff Rux is getting or does get, players are going to have so much more to spend coins on.

  • Agreed. Originally, based on the dev posts, Rux sounded like he was going to sell very special items while the Reward-O-Tron would have the more basic items for sale for coins. As more and more of us stockpile coins we can't spend, the Rux store selling such basic items that should be in the reward-o-tron is especially galling.

I really don't mind losing the sticker stop and getting hundreds, even thousands, of self-revives I'll never fully use, but surely there's a more consumer friendly way to have a cash store and let our coins do something! After core function issues and balancing, I would say that the current coin/rainbow star issue is an issue the community at large wants addressed. I post about this a lot too and Rux could sell just legendary items and special things like more character build slots, and leave the other customizations for the reward-o-tron.

At the very least, let us buy rainbow stars with coins or something like that. The rewards at the end of matches feel so hollow when it's just more coins we can't spend.

  • @YaBoiMattyK I’ve made a similar rant before on the forums. In GW2, Rux was accessible by only coins because coins were the singular type of currency to buy things, with Stars and Rainbow Stars being for chests and miscellaneous content. You could purchase rare items from Rux by playing the game however you wanted.

In BFN, Rux is exclusively rainbow stars, pushing coins into total irrelevancy after clearing out the Reward-O-Tron and purchasing Wizard. Not only that, but you can’t earn Rainbow Stars by playing the game the way you want to.

Let me say that again: YOU CAN’T EARN RAINBOW STARS, practically the primary currency in the game once coins are dealt with, BY PLAYING THE GAME THE WAY YOU WANT.

You don’t get a small amount of Rainbow Stars every game of the weekly event like in GW2, you are restricted to a few weekly challenges that don’t refresh until the following week. You only get about 250 a month from the prize map, and you get a maximum of 500 from grinding through the tedious drudgery of Battle Arena which a majority of players can’t or won’t do. Not only that, but Battle Arena rubs salt in the wound by having a majority of the rewards be an INSANE amount of coins that you will NEVER USE.

Rux was a breath of fresh air in GW2 because you could get rare and exclusive items by paying up the same way you’d pay for a sticker pack. Now he seems like a slap in the face, especially since they keep adding more and more to him with no compensation in the gain rate of Rainbow Stars or any form of conversion with Coins.

We are getting a good amount through the Lost and Found event by playing a few times a week, yes, but it’s also a little insulting how we only got 100 stars for Birthdayz. The 11th anniversary of the FRANCHISE. Not only that, but this is a one month event, and we don’t know if it’s ever happening again.

It’s baffling how they will continue to add ways to get coins regularly and consistently while never giving us anything to spend them on. Excluding Wizard, WE HAVEN’T GOTTEN ANYTHING TO USE COINS ON SINCE LAUNCH. RUX IS UPDATED MONTHLY.

    Ugh.
  • @YaBoiMattyKWhy do you think they added the legendary upgrades which act like variants because they knew that a majority of people would get tired of the upgeade system in a matter of weeks and I'm gonna say it they created bfn because they wanted to imitate and chase after the overwatch style not because the idea for a strong or smart game was there from the beginning.

I'd argue that pvz as a franchise is sinking fast due to popcap trying to reinvent the wheel of what works, look at pvz 3 they changed the core mechanics of the series for a clash royale copy, you do not create a game with 13 currencies for it not to be mobile trash that sucks your wallet dry.

  • They should put a lot of the items in the prize, instead of making us spending lots of money. Yes I understand they want money, but there's plenty on sale, so give us something to use these coins on!
