I didn't even know it did that and I still got enough shards for a legendary piece.
And not all chests have 20k. I wish they did, but most of them have backyard items. And once all those chests have been opened, which will be sooner rather than later, the only uses for stars will be leveling and Infinity Time. And there's almost no point to use stars to level because you don't really get that much of a reward for leveling up.
Not everyone gets the hang of something right off the bat just because you were able to do it doesn't mean everyone should be held to that standard. I may not be great at everything but given the opportunity I will practice to get better. The problem I have with the mode is people aren't given the chance to practice freely to get better.
As to the stars lets face it stars only serve one purpose they're there as a time sink. Once you get all the Infinity characters unlocked star will once again be useless by your logic so your point is moot.

Infinity Time also gives you a decent amount of coins. And the value of said coins goes up depending on what wave you make it to, and the value will increase even more once all you get is coins and no legendary loot. So my point is not moot.

Actually that's entirely different point. Unless I misunderstood you I got the impression you were saying that character unlocks gave stars some sort of purpose which is just as short lived as the chests you gave as an example.
Though you do make a good point about the coins but if a practice mode was offered then it would only make sense the rewards would be different too , such as less coins and no infinity characters.

No I was saying Infinity Time gives stars a purpose. And I really don't think a practice mode is needed. Because when it comes down to it this mode is exactly the same as all modes: Kill everything, pick up whatever drops, and follow bonus objectives if you care enough. The only difference is you're either playing in a triceratops or amazing cat rather than a plant or a zombie.
The unique points of Infinity Time are extremely simple and, unless you ignore the pop up windows when you start, easy to understand. Destabilizing time means you lose, pick up shards to heal, you get a reward based on your shards at the end. - 10 years ago

Helping new player along in my opinion is in popcaps best interest. 😇

Maybe. Yea I'll give you that much. Although I feel like if they're doing that you shouldn't get a reward period. Like Mario Party back when it was still good, you could practice but you didn't get any coins.
Regardless, getting rid of it is a bad -no, horrible- idea.
