Unopened Level Up Packs Vanished After End of Round?

So, this sucks. I have ~90 skip challenge stars I'd been saving, and I decided to use them up at once to level my Foot Soldier.

I had a ton of coins after that, so I left the game lobby so I wouldn't automatically get placed in a round in less than a minute, while I was looking over my new items.

Thing is, after that, all the level up packs were gone. They don't appear to have opened automatically, and I played another round to see if it would show up after, but they didn't.

What gives? Are they gone forever? If so, that can't be intended behavior...
