Hello, All,
We wanted to give a first update on the recent addition of EA anticheat to Plants vs Zombies: Garden Warfare 2 on March 7, 2024.
With EA anti-cheat now in place, we have activated some cheat prevention methods, and are monitoring and investigating the activity we are seeing to circumvent our fair gameplay controls.
We will be tuning EA anti-cheat as we go to enhance our cheat prevention methods, and will be identifying and sanctioning players utilizing cheats.

@EA_Shepard Hello Shepard, please read the DM I sent you, as it goes over exploits in GW2 that basically bypasses the anti cheat and lets you play the game with unfair advantages.

I still can’t load into my game and there’s absolutely no error code what so ever, just the splash screen and it’s me and several other people with this issue and it’s only occurring after the anti cheat update so can we please have some sort of help? Most of us tried every single troubleshooting action there is, from redownloading, to searching in the environmental variables, to driver updates, and even removing the crypt base.DLL, nothing is working at all! I even tried downloading windows 11 and that still didn’t change anything whatsoever, is there going to be ANY way for us to be able to play this game

Not a solution that will work for everyone as is obvious by what I've seen reported by other folks having issues, and my old reply might be buried in the thread, but the thing that worked for me was turning off my Anti-Virus. I've not tried to play multiplayer, since that appears to be a hot mess still, but can play in the backyard and solo matches with no problem. I turn my AV back on when done playing.
I have to say as a long time fan of this franchise and GW2 in particular, this is disappointing even for how badly things have been going for PvZ for the last several years now. I'm not on the discord, so can't see the banning and such, I was on the old discord which was official but then was left to the community and then fell apart, but not the new one. We need some legitimate good news for these games for a change. I mean, we WANT to play and enjoy them, but these issues are making it difficult. I used to play GW2 for easily 20+ hours a week, but it's closer to just a couple now, I'd love to have a GW shooter as my main game again, but this is a sad state of affairs for an IP that is both beloved and has always been game focused first and foremost.

Could you please help me as well? The game ist not running after the update and i tried everything (reinstlaling, deleting, anticheat update, checking environment varaibles, ...)...

@roemersalat Hey, past different work arounds like the above mentioned, this is something that the games team has to fix and they arent able to do it on an individual basis I am afraid. The above info request is what they need more players to respond with so that they can find more variables in the issue and get it resolved.

sooo... does this mean there is going to be a fix available in the very near future or are we just stuck with no game?

@c4ad4verNo offense to the people genuinely trying to resolve these issues but at this point it wouldn't be too suprising if the next *fix* was the game just getting nuked off of every platform at this rate.
Update: was able to get gw2 working after i reinstalled it but my computer refuses to let it worked in public access zones due to security risks such as airports.

@c4ad4ver The team is working on a fix for it. As issues are affecting the multiple games in the series and not just GW2, it will take time to get resolved for everyone.

You guys should just try taking the anticheat or or just adding Easy anti cheat or any other anticheat beside the current one

Any other errors? The game crashes after 20 minutes or 2 hours of playing. No matter how long you play, it will crash at some point.Edit: I'm watching, but initially it seems like the crash issue is just limited to the City Hall event. Does not occur in online matches when entering through the base portal.

I simply can't play the City Hall event. In 1:30 hours of playing, I've already suffered 3 crashes. Very frustrating, again. What is still new in this game, ETERNAL FRUSTRATION.

Hey, Neighborville.
Wanted to follow up on this one. I know there is a lot of frustration around this one and currently, deleting the DLL file and the other workarounds listed are some of the only steps to get this working.
I am still watching this report with the team and waiting for an update myself. Once they let us know, we will let you know.
If you have not yet, here are some of the steps that have worked with players.
Navigate to - C:\Program Files\EA Games\Plants vs Zombies Garden Warfare 2
Delete Cryptbase.dll
Delete EA License Files:
- Make sure the EA app is closed.
- Press the Windows key and "R" at the same time.
- Type or copy and paste "%ProgramData%\Electronic Arts\EA Services" (without the quotes) into the new Window > ENTER
- Enable View Hidden Files and Folders
- Delete all files in the "License" folder.
Please clear your temp files:
- Press the Windows key and "R" at the same time
- Into the new window, type or copy & paste: "%temp%" (Without the quotes.) > hit "ENTER"
- Now your Windows Explorer should have brought you to the "C:\Users\>your user name<\AppData\Local\Temp" folder. > Delete all files and folders in it.
- (If some files or folders can't be deleted, reboot and try again.)

This helped me, bfn used to crash for me but when i cleared those 2 folders it started running as normal thanks!!

@EA_Shepard My game is on Steam. It is inside the Steam folders and there is no Cryptbase.dll file. What do I do?

I'm making a correction. In fact, after the update, any online game mode freezes in the same way. @EA_Shepard

Thank you for keeping in touch with the community.
In addition to the issues that others have reported, the internet latency in online PVP modes has significantly increased after the anticheat update even though the latency number shows the same as before. I made a poll for people to vote on whether they felt the latency increased after the anticheat update and it has received 381 votes so far. Out of the 381 people, 41% felt the latency had greatly increased after the update, 35% felt the latency had slightly increased, and only 24% could not feel the difference (Link to the vote: https://www.bilibili.com/opus/909748354781544484). Personally, I felt the latency sometimes doubled and even tripled after the anticheat update and this latency is independent of worse performance or dropped frame rates that have been well perceived.
I hope the team can also look into the latency issue as well.

I'll send it to the team though. I am sure they are aware. It's been a struggle for real. Especially when I cant troubleshoot things with the community and I got to wait like everyone else. But I am watching all of these issues all day.

I thought it was my computer (a little old) withstanding the update, but really, the ping is always the same as before the update, but I notice that there is a difference when playing online. A slight delay between me and the other players. And there is also the slight frame rate that drops slightly in some situations. When the game doesn't crash completely and I need to restart.

Hello, I just bought the game on sale and have the same issue as c4ad4ver - when launching the game through EA App only the splash screen appears for a few seconds then dissapears with no errors.
I tried reinstalling the game, repairing, installing all possible VCRedist packages (2012,2013,2015 both x86 and x64), installing the EAAntiCheatInstaller, installing the directx from _installer folder, removing CryptBase.dll, launching the EA app as admin, launching the game exe as admin, deleting files from %temp and EALicense folders, using FrostyFix someone mentioned in other thread - absolutely nothing works.
