What the heck is going on at PopCap?

John is streaming Destiny 2 and cooking ribs (looks good BTW), Justin Wiebe is leaving for "a new creative challenge" and Rob Davidson is silent in all of this because he doesn't want to get hate comments on his tweets. And don't get me wrong, these are all understandable outcomes of the current situation, this is Avengers: Endgame IRL. The only difference being half the population isn't dead and we don't know where the developers are.

Now if this has to do with EA, my God, I'm going to politely ask to end it with their elusive monetization system. I already paid for a game and you shouldn't have to make it harder to get rainbow stars for free, making the game P2W through exploits, and letting yourselves live off kiss-ups that buy rainbow stars because they need it to scavenge for content in this game. I know what y'all doing, and it ain't gonna stop me from seeing your actions to milk this cow dry and make as much dough as possible before this Battle for Neighborville packs up and so does the rest of the Plants and Zombies.

Onto PopCap. Of course, you could've just tweeted "sorry, no more LFN" and called it a day. But no, instead we have to repeatedly request for more communication only to get a content update time line that's already completed 1/3. Plus, balancing changes procrastinate to even happen while they let bugs roam around as long as they can before they literally make the game unplayable. And its not like I don't understand some of these excuses; yeah cross-play is hard to implement and its difficult to develop disconnected. But we could've been told about this on the verified Twitter page rather than have to search for an interview from November about why a feature may never come. Its ridiculous and can't stick-up to this any longer.

Finally, the community. Now, this doesn't have to do with the lads here at forums. Y'all are amazing and the good in the bad. That being said, as that statement suggests, there is so much bad from this community that you would think this was actual politics. You may have heard of Wolfy Playz. Great guy IRL, but his fans are complete cancer. Those 12-year-old's cannot live on this Earth without shouting how BFN is the work of the devil and GW2 was a gift of Jesus. And it ruins the game because this is how I felt when I continue to play Fortnite to this day; harassed for playing a video game. I know they're doing no harm, but its like putting salt on a wound.

I'm sorry if you don't like this. I didn't want to make this either. I know this sounds all bad, but trust me, there are still things in this game that I like. It's just in the way of a disaster that has yet to be reverted. I'm not sure what'll happen to me after this is posted nor how will everyone react. This was my rant, and my thoughts have been shared.

  • I have to agree with a lot of this. Just what is going on with BfN? There are only 2 IPs I really care about; Doctor Who (classic mostly), and PvZ and I love GW1 and 2 and still like BfN but so many problems plague the game to this day that I understand why so many veterans are not sticking around like they did for GW2.

Again, I like the devs a lot, and was sad to see Justin tweet he was moving on. His sense of humor and fun fit PvZ perfectly, and I really enjoyed the Live from Neighborville sessions to see several of the devs discussing and showing off the game. But also again, we need more communication! If you're trying to do a BfN 2.0 like what is apparently going on with Anthem, we'd like at least a post about that.

Wolfy himself made a video on how he's not as happy with BfN as GW2, but also that he doesn't hate it, but indeed, his fans tear into in rabidly, which doesn't help anything. Zero and Zack Scott are making far fewer videos on BfN than they did with GW2, and Wolfy hasn't done one in a while now. There are a few other YouTubers that cover the game but those were my big 3 channels for the series and I've been in a few Zack Scott videos, including the one he just posted about the minion madness event, and I saw @RicoViking9000 there as well, which is cool but I see @asabaida a lot less as she feels like a lot of the long time PvZ shooter players; that BfN just doesn't work as well as GW2 did.

The console community must be worse than it is on PC, not that the PC playerbase is a bastion of purity, but I don't see the poop or other negative emotes much at all, barring specific circumstances (at least one Zack Scott video has him being targeted a lot by a particular player and they kept using emotes at him every time they got him, which is not helpful at all). Another advantage of PC is unless you're on someone's friend list, they can't send you direct messages. I usually just roll my eyes or ignore it when it does happen but it certainly doesn't make new folks feel welcome.

There are some good things in BfN, just the customization UI and the ability to save loadouts/costumes to quick slots is a huge and much needed change that I love so much, but GW2 overall just felt more fun and had less core issues than BfN does. The problem is, it feels like the game is in limbo as far as genuine improvements and new content and the dev team being so quiet only exacerbates this. We want to support the game and enjoy and play it for a long time, but the game's situation makes it difficult to do so.
