What's your platform and server?
Tons of players on PS4 in US west. Yes, some game modes seem empty much of the time, particularly when a mystery portal event is on. But there's always a good roster for ops and TT, and usually some sort of vanguish mode.
Considering buying the PC version.
Any action there ?

It does seem like more of a challenge to find players on PC. There are a few threads around here discussing it, take a look for them. I think they contain some advice about when particular servers have more players.
ive checked other threads no use i really want to play but there no people So Sad and for 40 bucks i mean this game came out like 8 months ago why isnt there anybody
