Why did the Orange Beam change so much?

This question is based on nothing but my curiosity, but why did the developpers feel the need to change the Orange Beam. In the IGN Gamescom footage, it is a 2-round burst weapon that caused high damage on a sucessful hit and seemed to have splash damage. Later, in the dev diary for the Pre-Alpha, the Citron seems to fire a weak laser that ramps up in damage as long as you hit your target. Now we have a laser that deals a lot of damage and has the capability to deal splash damage. Why did this change?

  • It over heats faster to make up for it. In beta it was a very long beam.  I wanted longer overheat but they chose more damage and added splash but its still very strong.

    Speaking of Orange.
    Why numbers displayed by Frozen One seems more than the Base?
    Does Base Citron damage ticks faster or something?

    For me the ice citron is opt compared to all other citrons. It seems to take more damage and have a longer overheat.

    @xXFrozenChromeXx

    The base and Party Citron do additiona ldamage on every direct hit. They deal a set amount of 5 points of damage on hit (basically as soon as the beam touches a hitbox). Id you manage to get a direct hit, you deal additional damage depending on the range and if you hit the head. Thing of is that both numbers are shown separetly and if you hit the head, the big critical hitmarker covers the smaller 5 point marker. Next time when you see two 5 poping up, you actually hit once for 10. This is why it seems like Ice Citron deals more damage, because he doesn't have splash damage and thus the numbers aren't shown separetly

  • I think the reason Frozen Citron deals 6ish per shot and Citron deals 5ish is because Frozen Citron doesn't have splash damage on his Frosty Beam, whereas Citron does on his Orange Laser.

    Frozen Citron isnt weak, is just a support character like every other Ice Classes. Group with a damage dealer like PeaShooter and a Corn and slow/freeze/empeach target for them and let them help you!

    Btw thanks i just realized the splash damage of the regular Citron.
    Damn the Citron is more powerful than i thought! Thanks guys!
    Now im spamming all the Citron with decent success. The only two that really bothers me are Electro and Party....

    Electro seems good for sniping with charged attack but i wish his primary fire could do more damage.

    All Party variants seems weak now.. i just they could just be more decent without the Party Mode Up and make that Party Mode less effective...

  • Some classes are just difficult to master, but I have no problem playing as one.
