Will there ever be a GW3?

For those of you who don't follow the Youtuber ZEROxFUSIONZ,  you might be interested in seeing this video he has made based on a Twitter feed from Justin Wieber that gives his, ZEROxFUSIONZ's, take on that question (see following link: The Future of Plants vs Zombies ).

As many of you may already know, Justin Wieber was the creative director of the GW series and BfN.

Not good news, I'm afraid, but in our mind's eye, we were probably not expecting anything other than that, anyway.

I follow Justin Wiebe as well. In fact the original reason I even bothered with Twitter was to follow him for GW2!

I was disappointed about the 'STEVE' AI post. I feel that we need an actual person or small team involved, they could likely handle all 3 games right now, and with all the people that missed the heyday of GW2 especially, they deserve a chance to get the achievements and customziations from the special events.

It does look bad right now, we've mentioned that before as well. I'm not a huge of BfN, but I also see potential in many of its ideas. That being said, a GW3 with some of BfN's QoL improvements and ideas could be amazing if done right. The Reddit is still busy even if the forums are very slow right now, and you can get matches on the games without too much difficulty, (PC is very mode dependent), so the fanbase is there. We just need EA/PopCap to realize that fact, and make GW3 based on what we love and dislike from the 3 shooters we have now. I still play GW2 every day, even if not long sessions like it used to be (and FF14 has that expansion out, so that's my main video game time right now), and many of us are more than ready for a GW3.

Leaving us with a half done semi-sequel (BfN), is such an odd way to end a successful series of games with GW and GW2 doins very well, even now. If they aren't currently making a shooter, and it sounds like they aren't as far as we can tell, they really should.

    TheSprinter85  and stukapooka. I agree.

There are definitely some aspects of BfN which could be transferred to a possible PvZ 3  shooter and I am being unfairly uncompromising in my critique of BfN.

I actually do enjoy some of the features of BfN. It's just that, by means of comparison, I found BfN such a disappointment and some of the steps taken in the build of the game so retrograde. I simply couldn't understand why they went to the bother of changing a working architecture.

That disappointment has tainted my view of BfN ever since. Yes, the GW games do have faults (although minor in my point of view), but why on Earth invest the effort and time in changing something that worked and have to leave the series in a huff after a year or so of BfN being on the market.

  • I watched that video a moment ago and I was interested by the information the ZEROxFUSIONZ showcased.

I have said this somewhere recently, and that is while I now understand that the current shooters are not getting any more content, I will always hold hope for a future shooter. I feel like PvZ 3 will be somewhat indicative of whether the game performs well or not, of if we could see a potential shooter or not.

I do feel that a future shooter could take on the aspects that the GW series did well and improve it even better, and they could also tie in some BFN content (that did well) into that game as well, but I suppose for now, much cannot be said about this new shooter as we are unaware of whether this will happen or not?

I mean, I still hold hope, but really do not know currently.

@PerniciousPeaIt's strange indeed. I think it's due to the fact that the game was evidently rushed in less than a year as there was no true beta like gw2 got.

Gw2 was made quickly after the success of 1 but it was a direct sequel and could pull a lot of assests and animations from gw1. In bfn though they tried recreating an entire artstyle and combat system from the ground up and no longer used the previous character design models or animations. Artstyle and models that were most likely meant for the pve game and not a shooter. There is no real reason why the game turned out the way it did other than that it was a bad overwatch clone or that they simply ran out of budget and were crunching to meet deadlines.

Neither gw game is perfect but you can tell from a short amount of playtime that a lot more care, time, and effort were put into them than bfn.

  • @stukapooka   Absolutey! BfN is awful and labours with a horrendous game architecture when compared to the GW series. But what I have never understood, is that with so many former GW2 people involved in the making of BfN why it has turned out to be such a shambles!

Surely the likes of Justin Wieber must have been aware of what the devs were up to and had the possibility of immediately correcting any faults or maladjustments that were in the making, but maybe they were already on their way out by then?

Anyway. You're right. It is really all rather miserable, and as you point out. It was indeed fun while it lasted. ☹️

  • @PerniciousPea I want to hold hope but its probably not gonna happen for a fair amount of reasons.

    1. Popcap vancouver disbanded into motive vancouver and half the devs left including the creative leads. If we did get a new game it most likely will be by a new team.

    2. Bfn flopped, even at its arguable peak the gw games were much more popular and still have more players and new players in lobbies too this day. Looking up multiple sources and bfn massively underperformed compared to them (alongside being the lowest rated pvz game on consoles) and imo it makes sense. Bfn has a lot of evidnence that it was made in under a year after they replaced its original concept of a pve adventure game into poor man's overwatch and lets be real the game still plays like *$%! with terrible balancing and map design. It's a horrible shooter and a bad game in general. To think both games are made by the same people is insane.

    3. Bfn killed a ton of people's interest in the series and a lot of them left outright in frustration and I can't say I blame them. I hate sounding like a broken record but they really should've kept updating gw2 as it has a lot more interest put in it and they could've simply added back in gw1 maps with solo play matches for content (a lot of gw1 resources are in the game).

Pvz 3 looks like it's making a turnaround but its made by an entirely different team in Seattle so it likely won't bring back the franchise because it has its own problems.

Unless EA/popcap directly says somethibg I think this is the end. Well it was fun while it lasted.
