Upon selecting Garden Warfare, you'll get a prompt saying "This game or app needs an update" and you'll have the option to start updating.
i don't get that message....
I remove the game and installed again, and still don;t see the message

If you didn't see the message and it booted straight into game, did you try joining a match? I believe there is a setting somewhere on the Xbox One that allows it to update games without permission. I dont personally have this on.
If you're able to connect and play a game then you're fully updated.
