Merge Academy all spaces filled

In Merge Academy, all of the spaces are filled and there's no way to clear a space. Someone said they have a trash can, but there isn't one in my game and there are no instructions on how to play. ...

Merge Academy will suddenly say it is trying to save the game about every ten or fifteen minutes. It fails to save and says try again. It fails again and says quit or restart. If you quit or restart all progress is lost including any merges from the last save. I have lost hundreds of energy as well as a large number of merges.

This occurs on Firefox, Google Chrome and Edge browsers.

As it stands now, this game is unplayable. Please fix this.

In the last couple of days, they seem to have made some changes.
They added the apple crate that seems to spontaneously generate new apples without using energy.
Edit: apparently we must be earning too much free energy. Since this last change, the meter only accumulates energy if Pogo is open AND Merge Academy is open. This would only work overnight if you don't put your computer to sleep. Oh yeah, for extra measure if you aren't playing the game for too long it will time / error out and that extra energy will disappear anyway.
GP on how to play. But it will have to wait until they fix this latest attempt to get us to pay to play. This is a little unfair as we are already paying for Pogo anyway.
