Trash can timer not reverting to 12hour timer again.

Trash can timer switched to a 24 hour timer after I spent 10 gems to speed it up.  Why are we punished for spending gems.  It has been this way for several days.  I would have been better off spending the gems on energy.  I have lost several replenish cycles that would have giving me coins or energy.
