Cheating on SimCity Buildit

I'm hoping someone on the EA/Track20 marketing team reads this.  You just lost someone who spends about $20/month on your game because of the unchecked cheating that you allow to happen in the City of Mayors weekly contests.  Today, 6 hours after the contest started, the top player in my Megalopolis league has 56,100 points (impossible without cheating because there's no way to actually manufacture all the stuff required to get those points).  The next closest player has 33,610 (which is also close to impossible).  The next highest is at 14,900 (which is within the realm of reason).  I'm an ex-designer and coder.  It wouldn't be that hard to identify the cheating and kick the cheaters out in real time.  With the cheating, there's no incentive for me to try and get the Grand or Big prize- in fact it would be impossible.  I'll bet you right now that the cheater winds up with well over 100K points in the contest.

If you can't provide a level playing field with an equal chance for prizes, then I (and probably many others) are going to quit spending a little money every month on SimCash.

  • One doesn't have to manufacture stuff as needed. One can manufacture stuff in advance and stockpile it. Or buy it on the open market. You would be amazed how many war supplies you can buy with a storage of 600 full with supplies and a few million simoleons

  • Sorry. I thought you were talking about "cheating" in war. The same thing applies to CoM. You can manufacture a lot if you have a few hundred cheetah tokens saved up. And you fill your queues in advance. And you have a lot of raw materials in your storage

Just because you don't have the resources, or the skill, to do something, doesn't mean that people who do it are cheating.

Or maybe they are, there is no way to tell.

  • Hi Invisiblez9,

I don’t think 100k+ will warrant an accusation of cheating...unless of course you put 30k up in the last 15 minutes. The problem is cheating will continue to be rampant until EA steps up and defines the rules. My best estimate is 40% of the participants are cheating and 90% of those don’t even realize it. Good luck.

I don’t know whether there is a way to cheat but I just finished a contest in which I got 112k ( no cheat, I don’t know how) placed 12th. The guy who won it had 135k, the second guy 134k, and there were several other had more than 120k. It’s very frustrating. I have more than 2k of platinum and golden key which are honestly earned. I hope they didn’t put me in so called cheater server because I can’t compete with those score.

There most definitely is cheating in some cases. Some hackers have an unlimited supply of cash and items that allow them to breeze through tasks very easily. If all other aspects of your game seem normal you probably aren’t on a cheat server, you may have got grouped in with a competitive league based on your past performance.

Thanks ROccodonavan8. I’m definitely not a cheater. My highest score in a challenge was 118k but ..134k it seems impossible in a challenge which most of assignments are given 1.6 thru 2k, sometimes 3k but rarely. How did they get more than 130k, it’s beyond me.

Actually most cheaters hardly do CoM, I think. Since they can easily use cheat codes to get season exclusive buildings. They are more interested in wars, based on my observations. Lots of cheaters in war seldom perform impressively in CoM.

I tend to think it is more of a luck thing to keep getting 3k tasks, especially the building ones. I can get 10k within 10 mins if I get all the building tasks and I am well-prepared to build them.

There are lots of cheaters, but you don’t really find them in CoM.

  • Hi J6NiceL, great to see you! I’m confident your observation is correct most of the interest is in the War Games (although there’s constant cheating going on in CoM as well, just more subtle). Sadly, I understand the need for some folks to feel they have to take shortcuts...it’s just a question of personal character - if winning is so important you’re willing to cheat to get there...there’s really no value in your victory and no point in your participation.

The game needs more like you to make in an enjoyable competition. Take care my friend.

    Hi, Pinnacle!

Yes, I agree, it is way more subtle in CoM, so it is hard to pinpoint individuals who cheat unlike in war where it can be so obvious.

Not only there is no value in cheating to win, it is not fun too since it is a sure win for cheaters. Playing games is about having fun. While I hate cheaters, but with EA’s seemingly slow pace in crushing of them, I try not to get affected by them and make the best out of situations since I decide to continue playing the game.
