I disagree that hiding in shield is a form of strategy. Basically, any team with 10~13 members can easily hide in shields. It’s a no brainer. If a team of 20 can hide in shields to win, now that is more impressive.
Frankly speaking, this club war does not need strategy most of the time, except for the use of boosts, etc and when the teams are evenly matched with close scores. I had fought many wars (from 3 times a week to the recent 2 times per week) since club wars was introduced, and based on my experience, it is just a matter of which team has more committed members who have high level attacks (the crux to winning actually) and have the resources to fight. There is only those same old rules to follow when fighting to maximize the chances of winning.
If you like to hide, just hide. EA made it like that, so I put the blame on EA. But don’t try to romanticize hiding in shields as a form of strategy because it is not.
The club wars are pure strategy. It's not just about starting as many attacks as possible, but also preventing your opponent's attacks. If a team collects so many points at the beginning that it is able to stay under the shield for the rest of the war, this team deserves to win.
I didn’t say staying under shield makes a team less deserved to win. You win, it is a fact. I’m not going to dispute that as long as you are not cheating.
Just that it doesn’t sit well with me when winning through hiding in shields is being glorified. This kind of battle is hardly a fulfilling one for either side. It’s painful for people who want to get chests. Fighting all the way is a win-win for both sides, we all get something. I had fought teams that outclassed us, but I still enjoy these fights because I can get lots of chests. You can’t be expecting your opponents to be clapping for you when your team deny them the chests.
And hiding is strategy? The minute I see a small team, I know what they are going to do to win. There is no element of surprise. So far, all do the same old drill: coordinate (I do give props for this), attack with magnetism and then shield up. Basically, it comes down to having high level magnetism to get the lead before shielding up. I have yet seen a team getting the lead and then shielding up without magnetism.
Using magetism is not strategy.

As always my friend it’s great to see you. I see you have come across a newbie today that believes “run & hide” is a strategy...if it looks like it and smells like it, I don’t have to step in it to know what it is. My wish and hope is that all of there run & hide sessions will be with folks cut from the same cloth.
The issue of “Fair Play” was raised and I started a thread yesterday below and stated the rules of the game need to be identified, shared in the forum in a prominent location, and consistently and immediately enforced...Identify, share and enforced...(ISE)
The best part of the war game is when you battle someone with the same competitive nature...where winning is the result of doing your best, competing like a man (male or female), and laughing and sharing with your teammates a special moment and walking away with great respect for the team that brought out your best regardless the final score.
