Dr. Vu's Tower....60k?

I've seen some other folks complain that Dr. Vu's disasters wreaked havoc and destroyed some fully upgraded residential buildings. Is this normal? I'm staring at the 60k build cost to activate the Tower and think that sort of annoyance won't be worth it to get keys faster than I can using the dock. What are your experiences with the Tower?

    Mine costs $90K.

I've done some disasters in the full Sim City and don't enjoy them. So no Vu for me. And looking at the number of his items up for sale, a lot of others are the same. Guess it's all what you like to do.

It's all a matter of preference and priority. If you are someone who doesn't really play a lot and just depend on the taxes for your simoleons, then i believe you may skip vu's tower. Cargo ship with just 1 key for what, every 5 hours is just too slow. With vu's tower, there is no limit and you can get that ferris wheel for roughly about 4-5 disasters if you are lucky

Dr. Vu's Tower is definately worth it and the best way to farm keys.

What happens is that it flattens one or more of your buildings into a pile of rubble and marks them with an repair icon. You only need a single repair to get the building right back to it's former glory. If a skyscraper was flattened, you'll get your full skyscraper back. The only drawback is that you'll temporarily loose the population count for each building flattened, so it affects your tax income slightly. As soon as it's repaired you'll be back to exactly where you where. For each building repaired you'll get 1-3 keys. As soon as all your buildings are repaired you can unleash the next disaster.

You can easily farm anywhere between 20 - 40 keys a day, depending on what building material you have available, and if you craft it your self or buy from the HQ.

Also, there is no xp gain, so you camp at a certain level and farm keys to your heart's content.

    Anghild is 100% correct!

Dr VUs tower and the disasters are absolutely essential to this game. To say you'll skip Dr VU is to say you've quit the game.

The keys are needed to buy specializations..without those your city will be a slum that never progresses. And the cargo ship doesnt provide nearly enough keys in fact I rarely do the shipments anymore as its not economical. (Only one key for a shipment which costs about the same as a building repair for 2-3 keys.

Earning keys through disasters is just as important as earning simoleons through upgrades. Disasters should be done everytime you have enough items to do so. For me its anywhere from 1-5 disasters per day.

It is not the case now! After the latest update, Vu is worthless, making players like an idiot.

You need to collect them from pressing the thought bubbles, icons and gift symbols in your city and others. You may be able to find them in the Global Trade Center but it's rare now. You need to spend more screen time in your city and neighboring cities to get those pop-ups!

I haven't seen a red button in 3 months.  Good Luck!

  • I stopped upgrading Vu Tower because the items it uses are so hard to find.  I've been able to upgrade from level 7 to level 8 for a couple weeks now and refuse to do so. You can still play Vu Tower and collect keys. You just won't get Vu Points.

  • I hate Dr Vu's tower. So far I've dumped 60k gold coin into it and I've been able to launch it exactly twice. I had to sell Vu items to get stuff for a war and now I sit around waiting for a battery to show up from the ether just to get to launch it again. Vu items almost never appear for trade and even though I click every sim comment I don't get the one item I need to launch. What a waste of time. For people who have been playing since god was a kid, this may not be an issue. But for the rest of us who are trying to store production items, expansion items, war items, and Vu items in a limited storage environment, it's a constant struggle to balance everything. Personally I wouldn't recommend anybody putting money into Vu until you have so much storage space, sim money and epic points and coins that you're in a good position to give it a try. I play on an Amazon Fire tablet that doesn't generate ads. Other people are willing to watch ads to pick up items but I don't have that choice. The game is just too locked down. EA wants users to spend money to play and I don't do that.  If you think having 30 gold keys and a storage capacity of 95 is whole lot, you're not a good candidate for Vu in my opinion. Your mileage may vary.
