how is tax calculated?
if happiness goes down tax drops from 20% to 14.. 10 and so on but what does 20% represent? and how is it calculated. ive boosted my population by 30k, and my tax income has hardly increased by 400...

wow that is 5 times my current population and yet only maybe 50% more in tax revenue than I get. Has anyone discovered any more specific details?

I'm pretty sure theyre based on the theoretical income your city is earning. I.E. If your earning 20,000 daily at 20% tax rate then your city must be earning a total of 100,000 daily.
But for some reason there is an inflationary mechanism at work that reduces the earning power of the individual sim as the population grows. I have no idea why but I can confirm it.

- Why are you making it so difficult? Tax is based on the awesomeness of a building. A maxed out building has 3 possible tiers: scrubby, decent, and amazing. These are based on the mix of amenities surrounding that building. The tax rate of a maxed out scrubby building is less than a maxed out amazing building.
- @tommy- tax rate is not based on the "awesomeness" of a building. A maxed out scrubby building has identical population and tax revenue as a maxed out amazing building. I tested and proved this theory weeks ago and have had it confirmed multiple times. - http://m.imgur.com/a/YmqbR this is the screenshot evidence. Note this test is completely isolated with no other actions happening during the test. I demolished willowick condos which was originally built when the wealth forecast was premium grade but had by now changed to luxurious. I put a new RZ in its place and upgraded to Elysian heights, which is luxurious grade. You can see population and hence tax revenue are identical between the two building types. (Note the pics are in reverse order but its still obvious. Be sure to scroll right down to the fourth image which is the first in sequence.)
