Money Grab

Has anyone else felt in the last 18 months especially the last 6 months, that this game has turned into a pure money grab game? I’ve been playing now about 10 -12 years & have absolutely loved it, logging in several times a day!
Recently though the game I love has disappeared, now I can only play competitive for 2 days before limitations are placed on my progress or other objectives are now only included with me parting with my $, or watching many many more videos, these have increased 10 fold, yet my advancement has been stifled, I did have a team of about 20, now rarely 1 or team play diligently.

  • Iceland season was the start of the rot for me. The straw that broke the donkey's back however was the 10 year Anniversary Cash Grab. They absolutely ruined what should have been something special for the long term players.

It's worse now than it has ever been and what was a fun game has became what feels like a second unpaid job.

EA Just want your money, for what is really nothing but pixels and zero interest in what we all think about anything.

Yeah, the 10th Anniversary Showcase hit me hard too. I can't believe they decided to re-sell those specific year-end buildings. Those were supposed to be exclusive rewards for playing during those specific years (like 2016). Putting them up for sale again just completely destroy the meaning for these items for long-term players.

So you are angry because other people can get what you have in your city? I'm not happy with in-app purchases but giving other people more special buildings is good. The "exclusive" thing is the worst part of this game, all seasonal building should be added to default library in order to be purchased with simoleons, gold and silver keys. The level mechanism is pretty enough to reward old players.

  • yeah this year has been the worst by far for the game. they've destroyed com and turned everything they could into a cash grab

those were not regular seasonal buildings. they functioned as proof that you were playing during a specific year. if you joined the game later you shouldn't be able to get those.

oracle2867 Longer term players did it the hard way - they worked for things they wanted for their cities.

Platinum keys were indeed the rarest currency, these days they are ten a penny, you can earn them easily.

SimCash was pretty hard to accumulate and parting with it was a major decision 🤣

Gold keys required a bit more effort but again, these days you can get them a lot more easily.

Now all EA are interested in is the newer player's money and all they do is invent new ways for EVERY player to send them money.

The rewards for Mayors Pass is pretty paltry, the simcash at tier 38 is not worth the hassle anymore.

The game now in every respect is Pay To Win AKA Corporate Greed and the new breed of Cash Cows that want "Everything Now" and that just encourages them more.

Every time I open the app I am bombarded with so-called offers. I can't get to actually play until I've dismissed the offers, dismissed all the messages in the little envelopes and notifications in the calendar.

You can now buy green plumbobs, railway coins, railcards, event points, Simcash and whatever else there is going.

Where's the sense of achievement if you buy all that?

as I already said, I'm not defending the pay-to-win thing or in-app purchases. I'm just saying that newcomers should be able to buy (not with real cash)  all the buildings of the old seasons because the default library it's just ridicolous for the effort we have to put in this game. I totally disagree with the "old players did the hard way" statement, we all know that difficulty increased over time in a way that this forum is full of complaints and a lot of players, even veterans are just leaving the game because of that. Gold keys nor platinum are easy to get, we should continuosly grind to increase storage and farm items until ridicolous build plans are satisfied, this typically requires hours a day for months to earn a bunch of keys. But this isn't the point, the point is that there is nothing you can buy with those keys. Simcash and real money are needed to buy specialities. Look at the library, 60 simcash for a lake? 50 for a forest? And the mayor pass reward is 150 simcash. Old players used to get thousands of simcash for that. Don't even say a word.

  • I agree with you absolutely. The fiasco with the trains being forced on certain people to do their playtesting for them was a blatant example of EA taking advantage of users rather than pay for proper playtesting - something for which I never have (and never will) forgive them..

Then the tiered rewards for completing assignments have been reduced and requirements for completing assignments have been increased. I'm at level 99, have reached tier 21 in the rewards section (having paid for the Mayors+ premium option), and after getting my daily simoleons to complete the daily assignment, found that I'd reached the weekly cap for this week! Consequently, any assignments I complete (until next Wednesday when the cap is reset) will NOT contribute to increasing my level as far as the tiers are concerned. Thanks for that, EA, very considerate of you.  Grab my money but prevent my assignments from contributing to my tier rewards. FAIR??? You don't begin to know the meaning of the word.

This is a perfect example of the grasping, conniving, miserly attitude of EA over the last year or so, where the almighty dollar is all that matters to them. ****** the players without whom they would make nothing. 'Let's think up the best ways of squeezing the the last penny out of our players. Who cares if we reduce their enjoyment, and make playing the game into a massive chore rather than a truly enjoyable game experience? Let's inflate the prices for all additions to the game - especially the new buildings! Who cares if some players walk away? With luck we'll make more profits from those idiots who will pay our prices! Let's throw them a bone to make it seem like we care - 15 greenback a day, for example?'

Wow! I'm stunned and overwhelmed by EA's generosity, through which they hope to cover up their grasping 'give us your money' ethic, of which, frankly, I'm sick to death.

EA won't take any notice of this post, simply because they don't have any regards for the players; all they care about is the money they can grab from us. And I fear that this situation is only going to continue to degenerate in direct proportion to their greed.

    Simcity Buildit Mayors:

After many-many years of reading all the complaints about EA and this game, we have after 10 year and 11 months of playing come to this conclusion: the only way EA is going to listen is through your pocket-book. We have stopped all payments to EA over this game. We are putting our words into action by voting with our money instead of spending it.

We can change the horizon but we would all have to stand together on this. We have learned through the years that certain avenues such as this one is just a sounding board in where you can vent your complaint without any real action to fix. If one is really interested in trying to change that horizon, purchase one share of common stock of EA and then this will give you a better voice and a place where this company will listen to you. But for now as long as players keep spending their hard earned dollars on this game - nothing is going to change.
