@Beardown_Bucky -- You can help determine which residential buildings are going to be built by selecting the "residence" button on the right (the one that lets you place new residential zones) and then selecting either of the other tools that will appear on the right. One of them is a blue 3D bar graph, and the other looks like a hard-hat. The blue 3D bar graph shows you land values and the hard hat will give you a wealth forecast. I believe that by paying attention to these values, you will have a better chance of getting the buildings you desire. In my own city, I have a "nursery" where the land values are dark blue. I "grow" my buildings there, and then move them to areas that I have prepared for them. In this way, I am consistently able to get the highest level of luxury buildings for my city. Other players may prefer a more natural look -- with a population and economic diversity that mimics real-world cities -- and this result can also be obtained by watching the land values and wealth forecast for each area that is being built.
