Oh I know what you mean - the luck of the draw with assignments!
Had my allowable number of assignments done in just over 3 days! Why couldn't I do that in high school? 🙂
I planned well, chose big-point assignments, and spent a lot of time playing. ....no, I do not have a life 🙂 I also used a few llama speed-ups, since I had them.
Nearly didn't do a vu assignment, thinking I didn't have enough vu items, but in the end I decided to spend simbucks on the missing piece. A 3000 point assignment is more valuable than a couple of simbucks that can be easily replaced in a video-ad or two.
I did time-out on one assignment though. I had left my tablet at home when I went out for 6 hours. Doh! Lesson learned.
Ended up in 4th place in town league, so I got gold keys instead of the more desirable platinum, but at least I got a swag of simoleans.
Next week: City League. WOOHOO!!
Is there a list of the leagues and the prizes for places other than first place? In Town League 1st and 2nd get platinum keys, and further down you get gold. Do you get platinum further down the list in higher up leagues? Or do you have to be in the top spot?
I am only on level 24, but have been playing the Contest of Mayors since level 17, and have advanced every week. I am still fine-tuning my strategy, and have yet to get a platinum key. I'm only doing this for platinum keys! lol
My gameplay at the moment is based around the contest, and less on population or anything else.

City league:
One grand prize is 5 platinum, 10 gold tokens, $100K.
Two big prizes: 3 platinum, 5 gold tokens, $80K.
Five Medium prizes: 1 platinum, 3 gold tokens, $60K
42 Small prizes: 6 gold keys, 2 gold tokens, $30K
Metropolis league:
One grand prize is 20 platinum, 200 sim cash, 10 gold coins
Two big prizes: 15 platinum, 100 sim cash, 7 gold coins
5 medium prizes: 5 platinum, 50 sim cash, 5 gold coins
42 small prizes: 1 platinum, 5 sim cash, 3 gold coins
This week I thought I'd be more competitive since I have an airport, - and I was number one for a while! - but ended in 14th place, so a small prize, no league advancement.
My point total was 58015; first place was 77560.

I got demoted this week from the Metropolis league back down to the city league. I didn't have as much time this week to work on the contest and had seventeen tasks to complete at the end. This is OK with me though cause i don't think one can win the big prizes in the top two leagues (SimCash being part of the prize) unless you spend real cash to complete the tasks.
Example
The Metropolis league has 40 assignments you need to complete in 5 days of the contest. So if you have a task that requires to complete 3 air cargo shipments to say Paris ( the time between planes in my game was 12 hours) one has to waste a full day waitng to complete the task unless you have Sim Cash to cancel the wait time and complete the task.( It would have required 28 SimCash for me to complete this task that way). From what I have witnessed so far the higher point tasks are assigned to Air Cargo Shipments. So if most of you points are obtained doing the Air Cargo Shipments you don't stand a chance of finishing in first place

Must give credit to EA. They have finally found something that would tempt us to use real money. I haven't used real money but have used simcash on that one missing vu item and also on another item that you suddenly couldn't find in the trade market. That week was worth it though, got 3rd place but having a hard time breaking out of city league.
As for the video commercial prize, I find I am always getting the unshown prize 100 per cent of the time. They've rigged it man. And that prize is usually something lousy and notice when do you get simcash prize there's always another box that that has simcash.

I purposely did the bare minimum, came in #78 I think, just good enough not to get demoted. I only did tasks I would normally do. No airport tasks, and only a few vu tasks to clear stock.
I'm boycotting the contests until it's an even playing ground with rewards worth competing for.

That's fair. I don't know why we do this to ourselves. It's not enjoyable and mainly a chore. It's supposed to be fun but it's really stressful. Don't expect it to be fair any time soon. EA knows what it's doing. Competition is designed to weed out the casual and moderate players for the die hard paying players to remain.
