I do agree that some of the rewards are ridiculous. Im in the Metropolis League, where the reward for finishing 9-50 is 1 Platinum key, 5 SimCash and 3 cheetah speed ups. Its bad enough to accept that if you finish 9th, you get the same as the person finishing 50th. In a competitive arena, luck and/or skill notwithstanding, if I somehow manage to beat out 92 of my competitors, you would like I would be awarded something better than the rest. Whats the motivation? A whopping 5 simcash? You would think these awards really cost EA real money, as they dole them out like Ebeneezer Scrooge
That's true about the rewards. I've been trying to get promoted to megalopolis (and this week I did it!) so next contest I will have been in every league. It's very hard to get so close to a big or medium prize and then get knocked down. Last week I was in position 4 at 6 AM EST on Monday, (one hour before the contest end), then got ninja'd multiple times and finished at 9. Small prize, no promotion.
SO... if it seems obvious that you're in for the small prize, or you're happy with the small prize, trying to stay in the top 50 should require only a smallish effort.
Still, there's always the chance that this will be your lucky week...

Hehehe Arcadia0426, I get what you mean about being ninja'd. I *thought* my last 2880 point assignment would ninja me into just inside promotion territory in the last hour, but someone else obviously thought the same thing, and ninja'd the both of us.... so I ended up one freakin' position shy of promotion. Missed by "that much". lol
I aint gonna play this week. ...well not for prizes or promotion, but just enough to not be demoted back to Town. I want to make a good few more speed-ups before I make my next attempt for the summit. 🙂

Nope not really into it for the small prize and nothing about this Contest requires only a smallish effort, except for maybe not competing at all. Something is always better than nothing and I was just trying to say something positive, instead of complaining like everyone else here seems to do...
Some people would complain even if they were hung with a new rope...

I agree that even getting a small prize, at least in the City league (and I presume on up), requires more than a small effort. I gave a small to medium effort in my first City league, and missed small prize by 8 spots. I was not happy, but I could have picked some better tasks. I think in the higher leagues, there should be something given to spots 65 or 60 and up, even a "tiny" prize of a couple of gold keys. Frankly, unless you don't really participate at all, or a real small amount (like only half your assignments), you should get something for your efforts. I will try harder this next week to at least get a small prize and stay in that realm until I've built up enough to make a run for a larger prize.
