Please check the amount of free hard drive space ont the computer's C:\ drive. This error can occur if there is a shortage of free space.

Hi Barry,
thanks for providing input. Unfortunately that was not useful.
I can start the game so fix 1 was not really applicable to my problem. Nonetheless I did what was described there - same effect. Also I wonder why I should be doing this when I freshly installed the game (on two machines).
You should no longer point to the second fix as the "SimCityRecovery Application" does not exist anymore. It will point me to a website instructing me to uninstall and re-install the game. As mentioned in my first post I have already done this - on both PCs. Also I highly dislike selling "try shutting it off and on again" as "solution".
Regarding your last point: I have more than 50GB of free space on my C:\ drive so I doubt this is the problem. I also have 8GB of RAM on my first and 12GB of RAM on my second machine and started Sim City without any other application running.

Hi @marcmib - Is this a new install of SimCity on your new pc? Just wondering if you have successfully run the game previously and this error message just started appearing, or if you just installed it and are getting this error trying to run it the first time.
Please double-check these settings and try again:
Always run installation files "As Administrator"
Firewall and Antivirus - Make sure SimCity.exe and Origin.exe are added to exception lists. If you have BitDefender installed, disable it.
Graphics drivers and OS are patched and updated to newest versions
SimCity.exe and Origin.exe - Set them to run "as administrator"
Nahimic from MSI - this is an audio management program that comes with MSI motherboards. Disable or uninstall it. Nahimic 2 & 3 are known to cause this issue.
Disable Origin in-game In Origin main menu, right-click SimCity icon, Game Properties, check the box that says "Disable Origin In-game"
Run in Windows 7 or 8 compatibility mode - right-click SimCity shortcut; choose Properties > Compatibility tab > Check the box to run in Win 7 or 8 compatibility modeLower your graphics settings - as an older program, SimCity doesn't seem to always work well with 4k settings or dual monitors. If you're running 4k, try reducing the resolution to 1080p first; sometimes changing to single monitor mode will get it running as well
Definitely post back and let us know whether something worked. If it still won't run, reply back with any additional info or error messages you're getting and attach a dxdiag report.
Happy Building!

To add to this, SimCity has a typical line of code that prohibits you from using two or more monitors. I have used two monitors as long as I can remember (probably since 2000 or 2001) when I left my parental house to move out on my own. I have seen this issue in some cases as where the game particularly tries to focus on ONE monitor and whereas there are two, it detects it either as cheating (C&C Renegade had this issue where many people were simply banned from the game just for having a dual monitor setup) or as a corrupt setup. Other games include Battlefield 2 (where BF1942 strangly enough supported dual monitors) and NFS Shift 1.
I too have a fast enough PC for this game. Heck, I even run GTA 5/Online and Far Cry 3/4/5/ND on high settings (i7 4771, 16gb DDR3 HyperX, 7970 3GB OC, MX500 500gb ssd), and this game just keeps crashing as where my PC is fully up to date and nothing can be updated further.
As for Windows, I don't want the 2004 H2 update as it completely fails to run half the software I use for my work (which are all updated weekly by their dev's).
I've had an interesting chat with someone about SC5 and he refuses to run the game on W10. He's still using W8.1 because of all the issues with this game.
Last but not least, I'm still a happy SC5-player with almost 6200 hours since 2014. It usually runs in the background when I'm working or producing music. It's not a bad game. Just very limited.
I usually teach people how to play this game and how to get a 500k+ population.
As for everyone bashing EA, true, I know you do and why you feel the need to. But it was Maxis which developped the game. And although EA bought Maxis, followed by completely closing the studio (WTF EA), all coding and design was done by Maxis. So even though I liked the old Maxis studio and their developers, it's still them who made the not so very well optimized SimCity.
