It comes pre-patched to the latest version on Origin, Steam and GOG, so why would you want to "update" it manually?
because it isn't updated to the latest version on Origin... which is really weird considering they are run by EA... the maker of the game if im not mistaken?
And without it being updated to the latest version, you can't download and install custom maps and regions. ....

- What makes you think it isn't the latest? Version 641 is exclusive to digital stores, and exists on Steam and GOG, so why wouldn't it be on Origin? It's newer than 638, which is the last retail version.
