For me, the Hard hang i fixed by turning off game Shadows in the options.
Also I found that other games were hard hanging my system but not as much as SC and to fix it I upgraded drivers (I am running ASUS ROG Xonar Phoebus Sound Card).
Have not had a hard hang since, but now I get SC start using max CPU cycles on 1 of my 6 cores and then it freezes up. Started happening when my second city in the region got to a large size.
I now have 4 cities in the region and building the arcology. But I still have a major issue, now the game seems to want to die and stop responding. Windows attempts to find out why but as per the usual it never can figure it out (as it cant seem to figoure out why any application hangs). Comming from a programming nature, if I program a bit of software that uses the .net framework and takes longer than 900ms to update the display (either by completing function and returning to the main routine or by manually forcing a window refresh. I just forget the name of the function now, but if not called after 900ms and your routine is still running then windows believes the application has stopped responding and then the window hangs. If the program finishes and does back to the main routine soon enough the application will recover.
I think as a result of a threading issue the game is getting stuck in an infinite loop. Clearly they rushed the coding of a multi threaded application and the game is all that much worse for it. One thread gest hung up the rest of the threads are waiting for this one to finish so they can continue but it never does so windows treats the game as a hostile app and before you know it the game has crashed.
Still no response from EA....? 😕mileyfrustrated: Well I just wanted to add my name to the whole list of people having this issue... At least I now know for sure it isn't an issue with my computer.

From what I've gathered in all these posts is that it's most likely due to patch 1.8 and due to cheetah mode. I would discount the idea that certain buildings trigger it because no one seems to agree on the same buildings.

Nope, this has happened to me before patch 1.8 as well.
