SimCity Looks Bugged

So after a long time I tried to play SimCity again and every map looks like this now.

I tried everything to fix it but nothing works, is this game bugged now?

Its really stupid that I can still play every older SimCity game but the newest one doesn't work anymore...

I also found it funny that when I started the game it said my hardware was too low but I'm way over the recommended specs on the box.

AMD FX-8350 4.0GHz 8-Core
G.Skill 16GB 1600MHz DDR3
Sapphire Nitro+ Radeon RX 470 8GB
Samsung 850 Evo 500GB SSD

What the heck can I do now since this game is unplayable, can I get a refund? This is really dumb...

  • Hi @Mightylink,

That's indeed very strange! 🤭 As you say you haven't played in a while... is it possible you have some kind of mod installed in your game since last time you played? If so, please, remove them and try your game again.

If that doesn't work, please, right click on the game in Origin and select the Repair option.

    Does it help?

    Hi @Mightylink,

Really strange ☹️  Did you try to repair your game then?

Please, also go to Documents and remove your SimCity folder. After that, try your game again.

    Any improvements?

    Hi @BlackjackWidow,

Thanks for that link, XP for you! 🙂 Yes, we can definitely add it to the 'Common issues' thread if it works.

@Mightylink, did you have the opportunity to try what BlackjackWidow suggested?

  • It worked but going back to such an old driver breaks 10 other newer games, its a terrible solution and I think I'm just going to uninstall this game.

I can't just stop downloading driver updates because of one game, you have to keep your drivers up to date!

I know with my Nvidia cards, there is a utility program where you can set which driver and settings to use for each game. If Radeon has something like the Nvidia GeForce Experience, you might be able to configure it to use the older driver.

I totally agree that they should be updating the drivers, but this game is outdated and generally unsupported, save for this forum. It will eventually just fade away as less and less people will be able to play it. I have considered getting Cities Skyline, which I've seen recommended as an upgrade/alternative.
