Comparing with Skate 2
So I just got myself a copy of Skate 2, out of curiosity to remind myself what the old games were like (I only played Skate 1 many years ago), and to compare with Skate 4.
- NPC skaters
- Pro skaters, pro photographers, popular skateboarding publications (Thrasher etc)
- Voiceover and narrative with relevance to skate culture
- Photo shoot events
- Video shoot events
- Races
- Skate competitions
- Hall of Meat
Skate 4 is hollow in comparison. Looking at the Skate 4 roadmap, it seems the main gameplay changes will be some new tricks, improvements to the replay editor, and a rather vague nod to 'new challenges' and 'legacy game modes'.
After 5 years of development it's hard to have much optimism when the early access release doesn't even hint at the functionality that its predecessors had. I hope I'm wrong.
