Feature Suggestion: "Pin" Option for Skatepedia
TL;DR:
Players must pause and dig through the Skatepedia every time they forget an input or need to complete a specific trick for tasks. A dedicated “Pin Trick” option inside the Skatepedia would allow any trick to appear on your HUD the same way Tricks Helper does in challenges.
Description:
The "Tricks Helper" overlay is incredibly useful for learning trick inputs, but it only appears during challenges. Outside of those moments, there’s no way to keep a trick visible while practicing.
If you want to learn something like a Stiffy, Tuck Knee, or a specific flip for the “Trick of the Day”, the only option is to pause, open the Skatepedia, and try to memorize the motion. You can take a photo, but it still isn’t a clear or consistent way to practice.
A “Pin Trick” feature inside the Skatepedia would let players attach any trick to the HUD using similar logic to equipping clothing or opening boxes. Once pinned, the trick appears in a small HUD overlay that can be toggled on or off, giving players a stable way to practice new tricks or warm up before attempting dailies, weeklies, or future monthly/event tasks.
How it works:
- Selecting a trick in the Skatepedia shows a Pin Trick action button (same structure as the Equip/Open Box primary action).
- Once pinned, The trick receives a Pinned State icon next to its name, making it easy to see which tricks are active.
- Optional; A subtle indicator (such as a small red star), appears on the category tab that contains a pinned trick to help quickly locate it when unpinning.
- Backing out of the Skatepedia shows the pinned trick(s) in the Trick Helper overlay, exactly like challenge mode.
- Pinned tricks can be toggled on/off just like during challenges.
- Pressing P again unpins it.
This system uses existing UI patterns, keeps everything clean, and avoids introducing any new complications.
Note: There should be a limit on how many tricks can be pinned at a time. Alternativley, even just allowing one pinned trick works, see "Additional Images".
Why it’s useful:
- Helps new players learn trick inputs without constantly pausing
- Supports daily/weekly/monthly/event tasks involving specific tricks
- Gives both new & experienced players an efficient way to practice new tricks
- Uses existing UI systems instead of inventing a new feature
- Makes the Skatepedia more functional as a learning tool, instead of just a reference manual
Example:
The attached mock-up shows how "Pinned Tricks" would appear on the HUD, both in the original challenge location and an alternative layout that fits better during free skate.
