Footy is short for Footage

Who wrote that "Footy is short for Footage" ??  In what small millennial universe??
How can EA Games, who made and profited of FIFA games for years not know this ????

footy is clearly short for football ,  not footage!!!

Or in more detail

footy" is a shortened, informal term for football, but what type of football it refers to depends on your location. In the UK and Ireland, it typically refers to football (or  "Soccer" for US citizens) while in Australia, it most often means Australian rules football or rugby league.

Examples of usage:

In Australia:
"Let's go watch the footy" could mean going to a game of Aussie Rules or rugby, depending on the state.
In the UK:
"I'm going out for a bit of footy" generally means playing or watching a game of football (Soccer).

Other meanings:

The ball itself: "Footy" can also be slang for the ball used in Australian rules football.

Please change this.. it is just dumb . but then again most things the NPC's in the tutorial says is ..

I feel like this is obvious, but words can have multiple meanings.

A grommet is a little circular ring that helps fasten two things together, but in surf/skate culture it means a newbie, someone just starting out.

Now if you were playing FIFA you'd be absolutely correct in your complaint, but this is a skateboarding game. Context matters. In skating, "footy" means footage.

I don't see how you could possibly not understand this.

In the skateboard community, footy means footage, skate clips, etc

Maybe it is a local thing... and maybe even something that came more after early  2000 🤷‍♂️   To be fair I have not paid much attention to 'skate culture'  past 15 -20 years..   so maybe this is what the kids these days use..  fair enough then I guess..  still sounds stupid to me though :)    Seems at least Urban dictionary, the bastion of truth ;)  has an entry from 2005 at least  so maybe I am just to old 😁

I'm more used to 'vids' or 'clips' personally  . looking in to this further.. seems it is a term that got more widespread use around 2010 - 2012  so not wonder i missed it  (and yes I am ignoring urban dictionary, I base that timeline more on Thrasher)  and me not being US based of course plays a role :)

If you remember the original Skate, IIRC Mike Carroll actually refers to just "Foot" not "Footy"
