the visual updates somehow have made the characters look like they all have a rash of some sorts. what we meant by "update" or "change" the visual style is make the game look real. like the others...
My character came out looking even better since the last update (saved for the still-remaining stoned eyes) and I was already pretty happy with how he looked before. If you don't like the stylization that's one thing but if it's a complexion issue just play with the character creator again. Tons of complexions and skin tones that still look good visible in this after shot.
look at just facial features and tell me with a straight face they arent trying to have a fortnite style with the game? i expected with them using what EA toted as one of the most advanced engines in gaming thats made battlefield battlefront etc. that they woudnt cop out for a fortnite/adrogynous style thats out of touch with the original fanbase.
genuinely it makes me not wanna open the game but unfortunately im playing this corny BS because they made it impossible to play skate 3 on pc
Ok. They aren't trying to have a Fortnite style with the game.
Fortnite has cartoony visuals. skate. (2025) uses stylized realism. And the character designs are hardly androgynous, unless you make your character such, since you can, you know, make your character look how you want. Plus, I don't see how that would be out of touch, regardless.
This is my attempt at matching the hair, eyebrows, eyes, nose and mouth with as close to the same shapes as the game offers, and you can see how wildly different they still are. I don't want to give an art lecture, so please, use your eyes.
Furthermore, what you expected the game to look like is kind of irrelevant, as advanced engines don't necessitate photorealism. BioShock was made with one of the most advanced engines of its time and it has more stylized world and character designs than skate. (2025) does. And arguably even more stylized than Fortnite.
Edit: And for the record, I also quite like the art style. I just wish lower settings didn't so drastically change/ruin the lighting.
crazy how that wasnt the character i was comparing it too. but okay with your fantasy.
i was saying that his mans facial features look like the womans features from fortnite.
im saying its hard to not be androgynous in this game. what i am saying is somehow within 15 years EA copped out on making something realistic and instead is making something cartoony and unappealing. somehow me emulating skate 3 and upscaling with my 4070 not only runs better but looks better.
the old games had women as main characters even throughout the series and no one cared. why? because they were just included as skaters. this is such an androgynous corny mess that it quite literally hurts to play at times. this is just a sims experience with skating and parkour. theres no resonance with skate culture in this game.
ea thinks getting brands to sell is creating culture.
and even with what you provided it appears your character has pink eye. just because they add ashy blotchiness to skin tone doesnt mean its "more realistic"
this game is on the same engine that all the recent star wars games were created on. aswell as battlefield and you are telling me with a straight face that they couldnt have done better?
So to make your point, you provided a character reference that looks nothing at all like what the other person posted, in art style or facial features? I even tried to adjust my character to actually match what you shared and they still look nothing alike, nor does it look like they have pink eye, so maybe you just need glasses. And subtle blotchiness actually quite literally does make the faces more realistic, you should try looking at real human faces some time.
Since you seem to struggle with designing men, and understanding what people look like, I made a few for you. And I didn't even use the facial hair options.
I'm telling you with a straight face that this is the artstyle they chose to go with. Could they do better? Definitely, considering they messed up skin tone rendering with a previous update. And the included variations are kind of limited as well, as every character ends up looking fairly youthful, and plenty of options are barely different from each other. There's also very little customization in terms of sliders, as you mentioned. But women aren't the only people that have hips and butts of variable sizes, in case you weren't aware. Unless you're 13 years old and trying real hard to pretend you're not a kid anymore, realistic isn't better, it's just realistic. It's not copping out to use an artstyle you don't like.
What's corny is you whinging about being hurt by character designs that you can create yourself, when you could just make your character look masculine if you wanted to. Maybe they won't look exactly how you want. So what you could do instead of being a weirdo culture warrior is say that there aren't enough options. You almost got there, but then you just made your complaint about something else instead.
And did so again, with this statement: "theres no resonance with skate culture in this game." So am I to understand that "skate culture" is photorealistic graphics and an explicit delineation between genders, with no room for androgyny? What are you even complaining about?
