Party and Missions Glitch

Each time I try to join my friends server and party, as soon as we try to go into a challenge it puts him into it but im stuck in free skate, can't pause, can't place items down, and can't see player's names. As soon as he finishes it it either lets me do those things again or stays like that until i restart the game.

Any workaround found or should I just go ahead and do a full re-install?
