Skate Early Access is good, but...

I'm absolutely loving what's in the game, I'm gonna go over some of my favourite parts

  1. Multiplayer is a gigantic social activity and once I stopped being scared to try and play with others it's become fun. I leave my party open, and I do try to seek out people to go on a big challenge streak with me for the extra rewards.
  2. The quick drop system, despite it's limits, is a fantastic way to help the player complete challenges, and cross gaps they never could otherwise. People will stop their whole game to look at what I'm building, and sometimes they even join in and try to land something crazy too.
  3. The sheer amount of freedom the player has to do anything is what makes Skate 4's fun seem limitless. Being able to teleport onto roofs, fly across an entire block into caveman, or climb up walls was a massive risk but it's paid off immensely for the game.
  4. San Van itself is a wonderful city and it's utterly jampacked with places to experiment or explore. When you wrap up your daily challenges, it's genuinely relaxing to just ride around, hitting street lines, but I also find myself getting magnetically pulled into the dark corners of the map and seeing where they lead.

Now, I will go over some things that I do not like

  1. There is currently no tutorial showing players new to the skate franchise directly how to use pumping. I know how to use it because I've been playing since Skate 2, but most people returning might not even know you can do it.
  2. It's way too hard to find a group to hit up some challenges with in-game. A lot of people don't even seem to realise you get bonus rewards (+5 district progress, +20 rip chips) which will quickly add up when tackling challenges. I've had loads of times where I thought someone wanted to hit up a ton of challenges with me, but they quit after they've done what they needed for some mission.
  3. The lack of keyframes feels so bad! Luckily, I'm on PC so I can use Nvidia Shadowplay to pause, move the camera, and resume the video, but that's a solution I had to come up with on my own. Keyframes need to come to the game ASAP!
  4. The amount of session-ending bugs and the lack of any way to quickly reload the game is almost lethal to me. The amount of times I've had the "return to session marker" text get stuck on my screen, the amount of times another skater has become invisible to me, the amount of times quick drop has just broken and won't let me place any new props, it's just so frustrating.
  5. Fast Travel Markers being locked to district level. If a player's found a fast travel spot, let them activate it early, and just have the location of not-yet-unlocked fast travel markers show up as the district level reward. It feels so bad to climb up a building, see a fast travel marker there, and now you're gonna have to go there again purely to activate it and then leave again. Reward exploration with quicker progression.

Overall though, this game is fantastic and it being so fun despite being Early Access is a great sign of it's future. Skate is back! Thank you to everyone who worked to make this game the amazing experience that it is.
