Skate locks up when booting - grey screen, blue rectangles

OK - not sure if this helps diagnose original problem but i went to make a video of the issue described in this post and now when i try to boot the game i get a "critical low memory error" and the game doesn't get to the point where the grey screen was previously appearing. I have 32gb of ram. I've tried rebooting and deleting and reinstalling the game. 

So i guess i need to solve that problem before tackling the original problem....
