UI/UX suggestions
I've gathered a couple different friction points about the UI/UX while playing, so I'm sharing them here in the hope of improving the game a little.
Skatepedia
Problem
It takes ages to find the trick I'm looking for in the Skatepedia. Each tab is a single vertical list of every trick from that category, so you have to go down one by one (there's one with 86 entries).
The trick description takes more vertical space under that list, so you can see only 5 entries while scrolling through. Also, the trick preview on the right takes more than half the screen, which doesn't leave much to the list.
Suggestions (see attachment for my poorly made mock-up)
- Making the list 2 rows wide instead of 1, so we can navigate through items in all 4 directions.
- Moving the trick description under the trick preview.
- Reducing the preview width/zoom to accomodate the wider list and description.
Gestures
Problem
There is no mention of a dpad anywhere when setting up gestures. They are either displayed in a straight line or mentioned by number (1 to 4), so you have to know that "Gesture 2" means "dpad right".
Suggestion (see attachments for more poorly made mock-ups)
- Arranging the gestures in a dpad pattern in the Skaters tab.
- Adding a dpad prompt under the tab titles (e.g. Gesture 2) when setting them up.
Other minor stuff
- If every external map like Grom and SUMR is gonna be reached from the boat, there could be a menu accessible from the San Van map that takes you there directly, instead of having to teleport to the boat.
- Bounties are now easily accessible from the radial menu, but the new crew bounties are not. Having them there would prevent needing to still go to the menu.
- A toggle for the Block party winner crown directly inside the replay editor. I keep it on while playing, but I'd like to remove it from clips without having to save a draft to go turn it off in the game settings.
- The cursor wraps in every grid inside the character's Appearance menu, but not in items grid in the shop.
