100% cpu usage

battlefront 2 often times uses 100% of my cpu in game and also even in menus.
any changes to graphic settings have no effect. I have tried all low settings and all ultra settings.  vsync on or off has no effect.

this causes the game to stutter when playing making it near unplayable.  this does not happen 100% of the time. it happens about 60% of the time.

i've been playing for about 8 hours and I keep the resource monitor open on my second screen and keep an eye on it.

when the game is running fine it's only using about 20% of my cpu.  then randomly it will jump to 100% of my cpu and stay there.

it will even do this in menus. the game will suddenly just decide to redline my cpu and it doesn't back down, it just sits there at 100%

i'm on a near top of the line pc
i5 6600k
gtx 1080
16gb of ram

This is also a fairly fresh install. the computer was reformatted about a month ago.  yes all drivers are up to date.

  • Use an external program to limit the games fps to 60 (I personally used Nvidia inspector)

I'm experiencing the same issue so I'll try that tonight.

  • what's your monitor?

The higher your framerate the bigger the cpu usage so as the other guy said if you are playing only at 60hz you have 2 choices:

    1) force vsync and get extra input lag

    2) Vsync off and fps cap around 100 , capping only at 60 fps will give you more tearing and input lag than 100 and your system can handle it just easy.

Have a very similar setup to you except I have a TI. Tried rivatuner and Nvidia inspector to limit fps to 60fps but I'm still getting 100% usage. Worst part is it restarts my entire pc -- this happens after a few minutes in the campaign. Running 4k maxed out. Never happened in bf1-wondering I should upgrade my Cpu to a 7700 seeing that I only meet the min specs cpu-wise.
  • I am still suffering from this problem.  I have tried every solution suggested and every solution I can find on the web.  it has been months now and there has been no fix.

  • My buddy was having this problem and he told me that he found he had 2 SWBF2 files installed for some reason, as in the game had installed itself twice on his system with duplicate files. He has no idea how it occurred. He deleted one of them and he hadn't had a cpu usage issue since. Might be worth poking around to make sure this didn't happen on your systems as well.
