Balancing General Grievous

As much as I know, even though live service ended, there are still bugfixes and minor changes coming to Battlefront 2. And that's a good news, since there are still balancing flaws and things that should get fixed before the game is left in a final state forever.

Pointing out the elephant in the room, there is Grievous, and probably everyone is gonna know what I think about. The Scarif update changed the controls of all charge abilities- now they follow the camera instead of the controls, which is really great for heroes that used to have very clunky animations for that. Like Rey or Obi-Wan, BB8 and sort of, Han Solo. But with Grievous, this thing 100% backfired. The claw rush was already a powerful ability but now it basically makes Grievous overpowered. Players quickly realized the potential, and since you can basically make all star cards around that one ability (lasts longer, recharges faster, deals more damage), they can win most matches without any skill whatsoever, but by using claw rush and running circles around enemy heroes. If youre not bad with a force user, you can easily outplay them, though blaster heroes have 0 options. You will eventually fall over thanks to the disjointed hitbox, and Grievous will run you over 4-5 times, which is usually enough for a win. Either lower the damage or expand the recharge time for that ability, or at least have Grievous knocked out of the animations by other abilities. We all used it, we all abused it, we had our fun with it - me too, when the update dropped I abused poor heroes with that one ability - but I quickly got bored and nowadays I don't even use Grievous because I just feel cheap. A small balance in the next patch would be fine. Grievous is a very powerful hero and he doesn't need these simple, one-trick strategies to become viable.

  • @CoffeeTonic No the solution to grevious is RAGDOLL IMMUNITY. If you get ragdolled you have a second or 2 of ragdoll immunity so grevious can’t hit you multiple times, this also fixes anakins ability loop without nerfing him again

    @LemonConsumptionTalking about Anakin, if you'd fix his ability loop, he'd safely be one of the worst heroes in the game.

    Because hands down, the only really good ability he has is his magnet. His other two abilities are stationary and stationary abilities are never good in a multiplayer game. 
    Especially his right ability strike can even be dodged and most times there's no point of using it if you can kill most people by just using 2 - 3 regular attacks.

    The only thing you can do for middle ability is jumping right into enemies and use it before they can escape. Still a risky approach.

    These abilities are only really good if chained together with the magnet, the downside here is, that without magnet, you better wait behind cover until the ability refreshes before moving on.

    Anakin is more an all-out-at-once hero which also makes him not one of my favourite ones because the waiting doesn't give you a dynamic gameplay.

    Other heroes like Luke, Yoda, Kylo Ren... stand out in this matter because it's enough most of the time if there's only one of any ability available for you atm.

    So you can keep rushing and maneuvering as them.

    For Grievous, well... One problem is already his huge hitbox size, so it's not hard to hit people with the claw rush.

    Although it can be done pretty well as Rey and Obi-Wan too, it's even easier when using Grievous.


  • The hitbox and the fact that nothing knocks him out of it are the problems. He can hit you out of midair and is guaranteed to get the full use of the ability which is just a gigantic imbalance because LS rush abilities seem to get countered by maul and vader's chokes and any stun or explosion. Fix the hitbox and let abilities knock grievous out of claw rush and i think he'd be fine

    Hans granade can stop claw rush!The big problem with Greivous is that if his skills on cd u are just useless trash that can be killed by any unit very fast

  • @TRlALON The only reason anakin is reliant on his loop is because dice nerfed him to absurdity, he shouldn’t be reliant on the loop in the first place, if they buffed his stats back up, ragdoll immunity would be great and not damaging to anakin, his new stats could be something like:
    HM: 90% Damage reduction, start damage 100, charges up to 300
    Retribution: 90% damage reduction, lasts 3 seconds
    Passionate strike: 200 damage to heroes, 365 to troopers
    Stamina: buff blocking stamina and remove stamina penalty on card(do the same for general grevious)
