Battlefront 2 Crashing upon startup
There is a thing as having too much "unlimited power"
This problem only seems to happen if you have an overclocked your GPU using an overclocking app like msi afterburner, aorus engine etc) or you just have an OC graphics card installed in your desktop setup
My Graphics Card: Gigabyte RTX 2070 super gaming OC
UPDATE #2: Fixed the problem and made the game stable
The Problem: Game would occasionally freeze and go to desktop without any errors. This is a different problem and can be fixed by capping your FPS or due to lack of Power Supply (links below). The main problem was one of these crash instances left it so the game wouldn't launch past the trooper background and could only go as far as the main menu screen. I later traced my steps back and remembered I accidentally changed the memory clock on my graphics card using AORUS engine.
It's also worth noting that I did do the usual recommendation of deleting my local settings, repairing game files, clearing cache etc but those did not work.
The fix:
1. Open up whatever overclocking application you used (e.g msi afterburner)
2. Turn down any overclocked settings all the way down. For me, I'm using aorus engine
and turned downed GPU boost, Memory Clock and Power Target (50%) the lowest it could go. I recommend
you experiment turning down each setting 1 by 1 as lowering gpu boost and memory clock alone
helped me to get past the loading screen but still crashed before the main menu could load.
It was only when I turned down the power target to as low as it could go that it worked.
3. Disable any overlays you might have whether it be discord, rivatuner statistics server,
shadowplay etc
4. Start up game and check to see if you can load into arcade or something successfully
5. If yes, quickly change any in-game settings to match the resolution on your monitor. For me, I set it to 4K as per my monitor resolution.
6. Close Game
7. Reset my overclocked settings (Memory, GPU, Power etc) back to its default values using
the "default" or "reset" button on AORUS engine or in this case, your overclocking application.
8. Launched Game successfully into arcade/mutiplayer again
P.S If your game is working but you occasionally freeze and crash, just follow the instructions below on capping your FPS.
I also uninstalled the game and installed the game again before doing the fix above. This isn't necessary in my opinion
but if the fix above does not work, it might be worth a try but you likely you'll end up with the same issues as before.
it's a weird solution but it worked for me. I was able to play all day without having a single crash when capping my FPS.
I will continue to experiment on and off but so far it seems to be stable when you cap your FPS. Hope this helps!
