Recently bought Battlefront 2 to play with my friends. Every time I try and open the game it loads the EA app, says it's "preparing game" then closes and re-opens the EA app.
I've tried to open the game via steam, the EA app and by just double clicking the game shortcut on my desktop and none of those work at all.
I've verified the files on Steam and it says they're all good, and I've reinstalled both the game and the EA app twice now.
Any help would be greatly appreciated.
hey i had the same problem for like 8 months but recently got it to work. Normally I would try to start the game but it would say it preparing the but closes and opens the ea app. I came across the solution by trying to start the game through the exe file in the battle front folder(which is something i dont usually do) then thats when i got my first actual error.(Missing msvcr120.dll) it said that the game was missing a dll file to start the game. It also said to redownload the game to fix it.(Dont do that) After some research, it actually meant that your computer is missing or has faulty code is the microsoft Visual C++ program and since it said for me it was msvcr120.dll that means i had to download the 2013 version of miscrosoft Visual C++. There are 4 in all so make sure you google which year version you need to download from the error code from starting the game from the exe file (you also have options of the 64 or 86 version in which you need to download both) after that i was back to aura farming with vader. Hope this helps
Just to give an update on what I've tried.
Troubleshooted the error code (0xc000007b) I got when trying to launch from the exe file maybe 8 different ways [Did not stop the error code showing up]
Tried to force the game to launch with dx11 [Did not work]
Tried to find and remove "Game_DATA_DIR" in environmental variables [Do not have that so I can't remove it]
Cleared EA cache and relaunched as administrator [Did not work]
Reinstalled both game and EA app, verified files and restarted computer maybe half a dozen times [Did not work]
Tried the repair game files from the EA app [There is no cog option next to bf2 so I can't do that]
Updated all Windows, GPU and C++ [Did not work]
Tried to remove a log file from "C:\Program Files\EA Games\Star Wars Battlefront II" [File location does not exist apparently so I couldn't do that]
Tried forcing the game to play in windows 8 compatibility mode [Didn't work]
I can still load up and play Jedi Survivor so it isn't an issue with the EA launcher.
I have the same issue... tried steps recommended by support:

Right-click both Steam and the EA app shortcuts on your desktop.
Select “Run as administrator” for both before launching the game.
In Steam: Right-click Battlefront 2 in your Library → Properties → Installed Files → “Verify integrity of game files.”
You can also try repairing via the EA app if you see that option.
Fully exit Steam (File > Exit) and the EA app (right-click its icon in the system tray and choose “Exit”).
Restart Steam first, then launch the EA app.
Search “Edit the system environment variables” in Windows.
Open Environment Variables, and if there is a variable named “Game_DATA_DIR,” delete it and reboot your PC. This has fixed “preparing game” loop for many users.
Some users found launching from a fresh Windows profile avoids corrupted local settings. Create a new user, install Battlefront 2 in Steam, and log in to both Steam and EA with the new account.
Go to “Add or Remove Programs,” find all “Microsoft Visual C++,” choose Modify > Repair for each, especially for 2012 and 2013 versions.
Restart your computer afterward.
Disable overlays: Try disabling Origin/EA app overlays and Steam overlay for Battlefront 2 (in each launcher’s settings).
Launch directly from game folder: Go to your Steam library, right-click the game, Manage > Browse local files, and try double-clicking “starwarsbattlefrontii.exe” directly.
Install Windows and graphics driver updates: Ensure your OS and GPU drivers are up to date.
Uninstall both Battlefront 2 and the EA app, then reinstall Steam, EA app, and the game (in that order).
Nothing worked... still cant play the game.
same no solution found here, I will try reinstalling and praying that it helps
I got it working.
Created a new local user on Windows.
Logged in with this new user, installed steam/EA app and ran the BF2
Then I got back to my original profile and it started to work
Anyway game stutter like crazy on my 4080rtx when moving the camera so it's really not playable
DX12 produces artifacts and game is unplayable
I need to say the game is a hot garbage 😭
Found the solution, go delete game data dir in environmental variables (search it up on youtube) restart your computer and it will work
