Cannot launch the game, missing settings folder

I've been having this recurring issue, when I try to launch the game, the origin overlay will display but nothing will show up the game will just remain a black screen until I terminate the program. No sound either. I have reinstalled the game, origin launcher, ea desktop launcher, I even bought a second copy on steam to see if it was just the launcher but on steam I have the same exact issue. I've tried compatibility mode, rebooting, and whatever else solution I could find online but nothing has worked. So far, the only discrepency I've noticed it that my settings folder in the battlefron 2 folder in documents never shows up along with the files associated. Attached is a photo of the battlefront 2 folder. Any solutions or anyone willing to share their settings folder would be greatly appreciated. Cheers.

  • All evidence points to your having some kind of rights issue, possibly other software impeding your rights, so I suggest you do more research down that route.

  • The settings folder is a good catch on your part. If you search this forum, you will see multiple people have had your issue. While you can give some of their changes a try, I didn't see a silver bullet in any of the postings. So...

Assuming you purchased on Origin, stick with Origin for troubleshooting - uninstall EA app and Steam - reinstall Origin and ensure any overlays (Origin, NVIDIA, etc.) are off.

Make sure you are installing Origin and the game with an account that has admin rights.

Kind of a stretch, but make sure OneDrive is not causing any issues with your Documents folder.

Check what other software you have running (e.g. anti-virus) and disable for the time-being.

I suggest you attach a DXDIAG report, as someone may spot something that's getting in your way.

  • Thanks for the response and yeah, I've been watching these forums for awhile just to find a solution but no dice. I went ahead and followed your instructions but still nothing. Interestingly, this is the first time I'm seeing anything about OneDrive creating issues with the documents. Also, I'm looking through my DxDiag file and at the end, windows error is reporting the game is having issues as well. Not really good with pcs so no idea what it means other than there were problems when trying to run the game?

Generally, your DXDIAG looks pretty good.

Two things to try based on your DXDIAG report:

    1. While troubleshooting stick with 1 monitor.

    2. The error you saw at the bottom is what I was referring to with rights. This article suggests you'll want to ensure your UAC settings in Windows are correct.

  • Thanks for the quick response! I turned the UAC slider all the way down, rebooted and attempted to launch the game but still nothing.

  • Appreciate your help, I'll keep troubleshooting and looking around just really want to play this game again. 😢
