Crash to desktop - found my fix

I'm confident that I have completely fixed the crash to desktop problem that has plagued me since TLJ season. I have not had a crash for 5 days where before I would have a crash every 2-3 games.

I had previously overclocked my older i3770k processor and never had any problems (over several years) but upon re-running Prime95 burn test I had a crash. Upping the Vcore offset sorted it and now the game doesn't crash either 🙂.

I'm not giving instructions on how to do it because it depends on your particular motherboard/processor and can be dangerous if you don't know what you are doing. I suggest looking for tutorials on overclocking as they usually have safety info about increasing voltages. This will also work for non-overclocked systems.

Be VERY careful as you can kill your CPU!

2 weeks and still no crashes 🙂

I would suggest anyone with crash-to-desktop issues take a look at your motherboard bios settings, specifically Vcore. Most Mobos have Youtube tuts about overclocking. You don't need to overclock, just tweak Vcore or Vcore offset a little then run Prime95 etc. Be very careful though.

  • Wish I remotely knew what I'd be doing. But I'm not going to fry my system for a game that should be working anyway!

I usually update my posts to say the fix/workaround failed but not this time 🙂

I'm happy to report I haven't had a crash in over a week.

In my case it's the Vcore that was the problem. The CPU just wasn't getting enough juice.
