DX12 VS DX11 with a 3080?

Hello all,

I am experiencing some crashes at the start at the battle for Jaku, once I downgrade to DX11 the crashes go away.

Also with DX12 on the battle on Naboo (the one with Leia) with DX11 I get an average fps of about 20-25, with DX11 I get 120+.....anyone else having similar experiences? I wanna know if the problem is coming from me or from the game.

My specs are:
EVEGA 3080 XC3 ULTRA

i7-8700

144p Monitor

16GB DDR4 RAM

Game runs off a m.2 SSD from WD

  • Same issue with an RTX 3080 FE and a Ryzen 7 3800XT.

If you open Xbox Game Bar, you will notice that the game is eating up all VRAM (ALL the 10GB) when you use DirectX 12.

I got also 24GB of my 32GB system memory used by the game, so a part of my system memory is shared to extend VRAM.

That means the game is using even more that the 10GB of the RTX 3080... This cause bottlenecking at VRAM level and will explain why the GPU is lower than expected.

DirectX12 on this game is just broken.

Use DirectX11, your VRAM usage will be lower, and these problems will disappear.

  • I have a RTX 2070 SUPER OC card.  With Everything stock and on "medium".  DX 11 I get 140FPS on average and smooth as butter.

I put the Game on DX12 "same settings" I got 100-110 FPS and Major Stuttering while playing.  Enough that made it pretty unplayable.  As soon as there's action or more then 4 models on the screen is studders for 1 - 2 seconds and boom catches up will do it again in like 20 seconds.

Also Loading times majorly increased as it says it is optimizing textures or something. took so long to get into maps, that they already have the first point pretty much capped by the time i load in.

EVGA Geforce RTX 2070 Super OC

    Intel I7-8700k CPU @ 3.87 Ghz

    32GB Ram

    Win 10 Pro / 20H2

    2560 X 1440 - 144Hz Viotek Monitor

Installed on 500GB M.2 Drive with 200GB free

  • 100 FPS with DX12 on and with a 2070?!?!

hm might be something wrong with my card then?

  • @Montauk-110 It’s not your 2070.

All: The game’s implementation of DX12 is a bit janky. Hence the stuttering. You’re gonna have to use DX11 if you want no stuttering.
